It doesn't matter with the dems. Usually nothing ever happens. Although I was surprised that the Detroit mayor received jail time.

Hmmm. fines and interest or a full blown trial where he will get off by an OJ jury.

More from the Times

Mr. Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which writes the federal tax code, bought the beachfront villa at the Punta Cana Yacht Club and has received twice-yearly payments from the resort, which rents the property for $500 or more per night.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I thought that money earned outside of the U.S. is not taxable.

Lol! I bet he gets away with it or joins with Al Sharpton(also has Tax Problems) in a chorus of, “You racist Honkies” if the IRS investigates.

Obviously, Rangel saw the Harry Reid interview where Harry said Federal Income taxes are voluntary. Chuck simply decided to volunteer not to pay them.

According to Rangel’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, we should blame Rangel’s wife.

Yep I had the same thought. Rangel is a good Democrat, so this offense is not in the same league as an evil Republican failing to report income and paying his taxes.

Wrong...wrong...wrong! If you're a US citizen every bit of income you have, regardless of its form or place of origin,is reportable to the Infernal Revenue Service. And US citizens, unlike citizens of just about every other western industrialized countries, must pay tax to the IRS on their worldwide income even when they're domiciled outside of the US.

He will use the “Gee, I forgot” defense. Not bad for a committee chairman whose expertise is financial.

Instead of using him as an example (as he should be)the IRS will let him off by paying the back taxes and a fine.

Nothing will be done at the ethics level in the House.
