SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin attended five colleges in six years before graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987. Federal privacy laws prohibit the schools from disclosing her grades, and none of the schools contacted by The Associated Press could say why she transferred. There was no indication any of them were contacted as part of the background investigation of Palin by presidential candidate John McCain's campaign. "Our office was not contacted by anyone," said Tania Thompson, spokeswoman for the University of Idaho in Moscow. Palin, the governor of Alaska, was born in Idaho. Her family moved when she was only a few months old to Alaska, where she was raised. She began college at Hawaii Pacific University, a private, nonsectarian school in Honolulu. She attended only as a freshman during the fall of 1982, school spokeswoman Crystale Lopez said. Then known as Sarah Louise Heath, she was in the business administration program as a full-time student, Lopez said.

Obviously this stellar piece of journalism would not have been complete without informing us of the name of the Idaho mascot. Let's see, has the press gratuitously informed us of the mascots at the schools Obama attended?
Obviously it was done on purpose. In order to place PALIN = VANDALS in the same sentence. These people try to be smart, but they're idiots!
I got my first baccalaureate degree 10 years after HS graduation. It still counted!
Ironically Reporter Nicholas K. Geranios doesn't know how to count.
What you said. This sounds like someone's trying to make an ant hill out of a grain of sand.
Much ado about nothing at all.
Irregular, but otherwise meaningless. Real-world people often have to juggle things, or otherwise make decisions, that look a little odd to others but do in fact make sense. Main thing is that she GRADUATED.
Exactly what constitutional requirement exists for a candidate to be a college grad? For what’s that worth, didn’t algore drop out of a few colleges and universities?
Then known as Sarah Louise Heath
You know, I never really thought about it. But I attended 3 schools in 6 years. I started in one place and took classes at another, then finished strong with a BS at a well know state university.
I hope she comes out and addresses it head on. I have a reason and I’m sure she does too.
This is a legitimate vetting topic. I have no problem with it. It is amazing how a practical explanation in the hands of an articulate politician shuts down the media.
I say, bring it on. Let’s hear it.
From http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-politics/20080904/CVN.Palin.Education/ the 5th is University of Hawaii at Hilo.
According to a biography Sarah by Kaylene Johnson Palin and three friends went to the University of Hawaii at Hilo after graduation from high school in Alaska in 1982. But they left after a few weeks because of the constant rain there, the book said.
Palin, then known as Sarah Louise Heath, and a friend then traveled to Honolulu and enrolled at Hawaii Pacific University, a private, nonsectarian school. She attended only as a freshman during the fall of 1982, school spokeswoman Crystale Lopez said.
I like the way MIchaelTArchangel laid out her education in http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2074833/posts. I’ve plagiarized it below. It really tells the story of an average American girl getting her education. Im impressed with her education choices! It makes mine seem boring. Ive added comments to his list.
F82: Hawaii Pacific University, Business Administration (With at least one friend. Could have been the friends plan to live in Hawaii for a few months and still work towards a degree. Remember her parents are teachers, so she knew education was important.)
S83: North Idaho College, General Studies (a community college - great way to get basic classes in a cost effective manner, and it looks like a cool place to go to school. http://www.nic.edu/overview.asp)
F83: North Idaho College, General Studies (ditto)
S84: No college listed (took a semester off to earn a little money)
F84: University of Idaho, Journalism (?).
S85: University of Idaho, Journalism (?).
F85: Matanuska-Susitna College, Journalism (?) (About 14 miles from her hometown of Wasilla and part of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Maybe something was going on at home and they needed her help, or maybe she needed to be close to home to earn some money again. http://www.matsu.alaska.edu/)
S86: University of Idaho, Journalism
F86: University of Idaho, Journalism
S87: University of Idaho, Journalism
Exactly — this is much ado about nothing. I have degrees from Wellesley and Harvard and no one I’ve met at either school could have given the speech she gave last night. I would take her common sense and political intelligence over my useless PhD any day.
many collegiate athletes transfer frequently, based on play time and team issues. does anyone know if she played college basketball?
Where did Ronald Reagan graduate from college? And what experience did he have?
Oh! That's right he was an actor turned governor turned president. We saw how that turned out.
I don’t care if she’s a high school drop out...
I do not think he dropped out, I seem to remember that he was kicked out of theology school.
So you could say he flunked God.
I did 4 different schools in two different colleges over 6 years. And I, too, graduated with a Journalism degree.
Does that make me like Sarah Palin?
The AP is so desperate to find dirt on Palin that they are reporting that they can’t find anything to report ... yet.
So? Indeed. The article itself is news because of it’s silly content, foolish intent, and what that signifies. I don’t expect that’s the significance that AP had in mind, however. I generally find AP articles are better read about than read.
“Wow that equals how many deferments biden received to stay out of Vietnam”
Biden is such a phony!
The only thing “blue collar” about Biden was the color of his middle class sport coat.
JOE BIDEN THE HUNTED PLAGIARISM FLAP SPOILS HIS BIG WEEK
Miami Herald, The (FL) - September 22, 1987
Author: SANDY GRADY Knight-Ridder Newspapers Writer
“I was never an activist,” Biden admitted last week. “I didn’t march on Selma. Vietnam wasn’t a big issue in my college days. I was a middle - class kid in a sports coat .”
Want to bet that the dope that wrote this couldn't tell you who the original Vandals were. When the University of Idaho adopted this as a nickname, the word vandal didn't have the meaning that it has now.
