Thanks for a great post — I am also very glad to have heard John McCain open up on his POW and torture experiences, and how fellow POWs saved him, how it took him beyond self-centeredness, etc.

I will continue to oppose him on some particular issues, but he is a great American and it is wonderful that he was able to tell some of his life story..... and he did not “exploit” it or Oprah-ize it, and F### Jimmy Carter who dared to criticize McCain the other day on this issue..... I have to wonder if the additional detail was an in-your-face (in part) to Jimmy Carter, who had tried to declare this issue out-of-bounds for discussion in the campaign. There’s no doubt that Carter issued a shot-across-the-bow before the Convention, trying to tell John McCain “don’t you talk about that” — funny, I don’t remember any similar strictured from Jimmy Carter to John Kerry about the 2004 “Reporting for Duty” skit which was way over the top.

>>PS was there any talk of Ramos and Compean by Palin yet?<<

I have not personally heard her say anything about it.

In the following cartoon, the elephant would be the "Far Right":

Sometimes, it seems like NumbersUSA is truly trying to stop all amnesty for illegal immigration legislation all by themselves, and this issue is still way too important to not also be the number one issue in the entire country, IMHO! If the U.S. truly doesn’t successfully resolve the ongoing illegal immigration problems, then this country may even eventually have another civil war at some point in the future.

You ARE wrong. Just don?t fall into the trap of being brainwashed by the MSM claptrap. Think.

Yep, I could be wrong and frankly I hope I am wrong. The thought of a liberal with a close circle of dye in the wool, unrepetant communist radicals with access to the inner working of the White House scarces the bejeusus outta me.

What's done is done and I hope Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin really kick@ss on the campaign trail and to hell with the media.

It was far too repetitive.

That's what I tried to say here but some vehemently disagreed and that it should be "flags, guns and patriotism".(I admit, too simplistic)

Nothing wrong with that. That's great for getting out the base out.

But to those undecideds and blue collar democrats searching for something more tangible, the party might have fallen short.

They've been replaying the convention here all morning in its entirety. I haven't seen The Big Speech yet, but I've enjoyed what they've shown so far.

They're showing the flim clip on Cindy McCain right now.

I think McCain was trying to curry the Hispanic vote, which is solidly in the Obimsters camp.

I don't think that is true. The Latino vote was very pro-Hillary and I think the older voters will vote McCain.

To: meandog

Meandog stated “...yearning for someone who has proven time and again that he will put his nation and its people before conservative politics...”

Meandog, please explain the logic of your statement. Conservatism is about putting the COMMON GOOD first and BEFORE the individual, which is, by definition, putting the good of the nation first. With what measure of “conservative politics” do you take issue? For example:

1. Respect for human life, in ALL its uniqueness and phases.

2. Confirming the biological facts of the human sexes, recognizing the exclusive nature and mutual compatibility of the male and female, as is made absolutely obvious to be by purposeful design and thus making absurd and opposed to nature the claim that “other” arrangements be legislated as co-equal.

3. To remain sovereign and productive a nation must not loose control of its borders, nor accept all who seek admittance.

4. To remain unified and effective in defense, a nation must not abandon its common cultural heritage and tongue so to appease those who seek its Balkanization into ethnic competition and dissimilation for the superficial unity of diversity.

5. Big Government equals loss of personal liberty.

6. The duty of a judge is to read the law, and act upon its plain meaning, adjudicating according to the law’s historical context… and not rewriting the law according to pre or proscriptive personal biases.

7. A sovereign people cannot guard their personal liberties when the vigilance granted them by means of the ‘right to keep and bear arms’ is deprived by gradual infringement.

Meandog stated: “... the proof is in Presdient Bush’s current approval polling.”

With all due respect to our President, Mr. Bush is hardly the shining example of conservatism. I would argue that he is rather liberal in his actions.

Meandog stated: “...John McCain went after the Democrat moderates and independents who (sic) loved Ronald Reagan and elected him twice; and he got them!”

I do not agree. Reagan’s attractiveness to so-called Moderates and Independents was not that cut and dry. Knowing a “Moderate,” by definition, is one without strong principles, one whose core beliefs are always negotiable, then I am hardly inclined to support your contention. I do not understand what sort of principle the “Independent” defines. By implication of the words, one would think “Independent Party” a contradictory term. Better, I opine, that one is “undeclared”, as for example Sarah Palin’s husband and son.

I understand that statesmen must be flexible; but that hardly equates a ball of pandering putty shaped by popular opinion. Perhaps I am wrong on this point, and maybe you would convince me otherwise? But, I think not.

I am not thrilled by Senator McCain’s speech this evening. I thought his words anti-climatic and at best a distraction, if not a distancing, from the conservative message. It is unfortunate that in degree his words deflated the expectation created by Governor Palin.

Perhaps astute “Freepers” will explain how it is that Mr. McCain does not recognize or sense the evil intentions of those across the aisle with whom he much desires to “work”. These so-called liberal Democrats (and truly they must be labeled Socialist, even Marxist, for by their word their and deed they are recognized as such) these impostures of representative government, these quislings against the common good… are no different in ideological conviction than those under whose imprisonment John McCain suffered his greatest anguish. I am open to reasoned explanation.

Admittedly, John McCain is a disappointment for me, and I do hold a reasoned suspicion of his motives; but that doubt is not yet cynical. Should President McCain repeat in the Oval office those legislative dealings for which he is notorious, then perhaps my opinion will become less charitable. I pray not.

And perhaps these questions you raise about McCain are simply irrelevant since it is either McCain or Obama-it is just that simple!

Hey - I’m just saying that Barack won’t make the mistake of Saddleback and look completely ridiculous by not giving direct answers.

I’m sure Obama will look ridiculous for other reasons, but I doubt we can rely on that anymore. His handlers have couched him away from those convoluted answers.

BOR probably had to give an outline of the things he’d be questioning Obama on before Obama agreed to go on his show.
Not the exact questions, but general subject matter.
I cannot image there were no preconditions before going on O’Reilly.

This is a big issue for me. I live in AZ.

What I don’t understand and NO ONE has been able to explain is the Equal Protection Clause is supposed to ensure that all laws are to be enforced equally. Probably didn’t say that the best way. What I mean is that NO GROUP of citizens is to be above the law.

When US citizens and Legal Residents apply for SS cards under false pretenses, this is a FELONY punishable for up to 5 year AND a fine.

When ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE USING FAKE OR STOLEN SS#’S “undocumented immigrant” supporters want to REWARD THEM WITH CITIZENSHIP.

If I was a meth-head that committed ID Fraud, I would get my state paid attorney to file a complaint in Federal Court.

As I have said before, anyone that is here ILLEGALLY SHOULD NEVER (unless join military, maybe) be allowed to become a citizen. They have thumbed their nose at the law and at the number of people WAITING IN LINE TO BE HERE LEGALLY.

Any ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS that are here that have committed FRAUD, USING ILLEGALLY OBTAINED ID’S, should have the same punishment as THE REST OF US.

THIS IS PATENTLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL TO GIVE THEM A GET OUT OF JAIL FREE PASS AND an affront to law abiding citizens and legal residents to GIVE THEM CITIZENSHIP.

Not addressing the illegal activity is leading to the downfall of this country. (at least accelerating it.)

IMHO

My apologies. I’m just frustrated. Delete away if you desire.

I know he needs to appeal to the independents in order to win, but this is the Republican convention. You don’t have to go all out with partisanship, just don’t mention “reaching out” tonight.

People don’t want to hear attacks from the man running for President, though. That’s why Obama’s speech last week was uninspiring and down right angry in some areas.
McCain is older, and we don’t need him to come across as a grumpy old man.
Obama was skinned alive Wednesday night with almost 40 million people watching by Rudy and Sarah.
That’s enough.
McCain’s job was to come across as a dignified, solid, experienced man, who will get job done for the people of this country. The veep is the attack dog on the campaign trail.
