Drug resistant plague - a bioterrorism concern?
The bacterium responsible for the "Black Plague," which led to the deaths of over 75 million people worldwide in the 14th century, may have other nasty tricks. Yersinia pestis can normally be treated and cured with a course of antibiotics, if caught within a few days of the symptoms.
Mysterious substance sets off major decontamination effort
Emergency drills to save lives have paid off in Montcalm County after a mysterious substance sparked a major decontamination effort at a West Michigan hospital.
Police now believe that the original victim in this case found a package in his driveway on Arloa Drive in Eureka Township. That package exploded as he inspected it.
The victim was taken to United Memorial Hospital in Greenville where the unknown substance forced the decontamination effort.
People in Greenville have said that it's been a crazy day, a mysterious box with chemicals leading to hospital being essentially shut down and a major clean-up effort. People had to go through decontamination as part of a precautionary process, all because one man opened a mysterious box that had a huge concentration of fertilizer meant to do some harm.
Michigan...thank you MamaDearest.
