A Wasillan On Sarah Palin
The Atlantic ^ | 9/2/08 | Anne Kilkenny

Posted on 09/02/2008 9:48:55 AM PDT by steve-b

This was posted in the comments section on the Washington Independent by Alaskan and a Wasillan, Anne Kilkenny, someone who has followed Sarah Palin very, very closely - with too many city council meetings under her belt - not to say her piece....

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents. During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign. Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%.... She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million....

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter....

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to....

Nice get!

“independent-minded”, “public-spirited people”, “progressive”

Don’t you just love liberal labels? Especially “independent minded”! No group is more in lockstep than liberals.

Conference of Alaskans Delegate

Anne Kilkenny describes herself as a 22-year Mat-Su resident, middle-aged housewife and at-home mom with a child in middle school and a retired, disabled spouse. She comes from a long line of independent-minded, public-spirited people and has been involved in education advocacy and legislative analysis for local PTAs. Prior to parenthood, she worked in the Alaska's seafood industry. She has a Social Science BA from the University of California, Berkeley.

"With a $1.2 billion surplus in their budget, (the state) should be able to do more for us," said Wasilla resident Anne Kilkenny.

Everyone in town hated her. That’s why she was re-elected mayor.

Well. Her recall was contemplated by the 60 Concerned Citizens of Wasilla (which I have been told is most of the people in the town)

Time for a little housekeeping. The trolls are out in force, and they’ve selectively quoted this piece on Sarah to emphasize their agenda. Governor Palin has many fine qualities, and undoubtedly most of this other cr*p is a tempest in a teapot!

They have that Ross Douthat and I think one other conservative there but they’re pretty much useless when it comes to the pure partisan stuff.

They occasionally have good articles on other issues, however.

“I will counter this B.S. with my own personal story:”

Nice story, but I cannot support a person like Governor Palin who was at one time issued a citation for fishing without a license. Didn’t you see the A.P. article this morning? Fishing without a license? What has this world come to? You post this nice story yet at the end of the day you are supporting A PERSON WHO THOUGHT IT WASN’T NECESSARY TO HAVE A FISHING LICENSE FOR V.P. of the U.S.A.???

You are obviously part of the uneducated crowd.

Considering she was re-elected to the mayor's job with 74% of the vote, I'd tend to trust your version more than the Atlantic version.

I'd be more surprised if the town budget didn't increase somewhat during her term as mayor considering how rapidly the city grew.

steve-b I don’t think McCain has a bus yet to throw Palin under as much as you would like to see him do it. Patience my friend.

Barack doesn’t have any room under his.

Huckabee is no Palin!

Keep buying into that old Romney-backer lead distortion campaign if you need.

This is the second anti-Palin screed you have posted today. Do you have a problem with Palin?

Re: Anne Kilkenny, you posted theis: She has a Social Science BA from the University of California, Berkeley

All I can say is

BINGO!

She has to be unbiased. (what's the HTML code for dripping with sarcasm?)

Instead of UC-B, it should be KG-B!

Andrew Sullivan doesn't like her. Wonder why? Maybe because she's a female?

It’s pretty simple. The left is scared $hitless of Sarah Palin. If she becomes a headliner on the National political stage the left is cooked for some time to come.

The more the MSM tries to tear her down the STRONGER her support will GROW.

IF you want the truth.. the MSM is frightened of her because she really has the power to CONNECT with the people and has shown the ability to LEAD.

She's a BIG DOG in a small package.

Thanks for the post! p.s. Maybe Sarah could teach your daughter to hunt and eat moose! :^)

This is a personal attack on me which is unnecessary and not warranted in response to my post. I suggest you take your head out of your @ss, you might improve your image!

We’re hoping to have more luck in that regard by getting our first grandchild who is her 4 year-old to become a serious carnivore like his grandfather is...so far so good! He loves meat.
