Obama is up by 6 in today's Rasmussen tracker, by 5 without leaners (48 - 43). It is obviuos that McCain had a very bad polling day yesterday, something like 42-53 daily sample or even worse.
Some of it may be statistical noise, but it appears that all the noise around Palin selection is starting to hurt.
“I have a lot of friends who are moderate Republicans and they as a rule, dont like the Palin nomination. They were hoping for Romney . . .And now the base is upset by the pregnancy news.”
I fall into that group, and am a Romney supporter. However, I was pleased with the Palin pick, and as a mother who raised three teenagers, the pregnancy news just gives me more compassion towards Governor Palin. Her family has certainly shown grace under fire! I had said all along that I would only vote for McCain if he chose Romney (and I still think the world of Romney) but with his pick of Governor Palin, and my observations since that pick, put me squarely into the McCain Palin Camp!!
>>Why the hell was Todd Palin drinking and driving, (if that is true).<<
Because he was 22 at the time and living in Alaska. And it was before they were married. :)
>>Not sure if that’s true, but it’s just one more thing that will ruin her reputation as a model citizen....<<
When was the last time we elected a “model citizen”?
But, more importantly, these trivialities make her a “REAL PERSON” and actually, over time, will make the MSM appear MEAN even to those who don’t support her. It is already happening, actually.
We are watching history in the making here. I firmly think that, one by one, these things will become positives. It reminds me of when I was in a march in Seattle for the first Gulf War, and some “hippies” were giving us the “V” peace sign. I was in the front and held high the same “V” and shouted VICTORY! The whole crowd started saying and doing it and the “hippies” sheepishly put their hands down.
Figuratevly speaking, I expect all of these silly allegations to go the same way.
Meanwhile, the one that “could be” serious, will also be exposed as a mere witch hunt:

This is gonna be great!
LOL!
He fits the picture of the dopey male we can easily view in commericails and sitcoms.
BTW, if he’s this diligent businesman, who’s minding the kids? Where are the kids a priority? Psst ... they aren’t ... . Kids want their parents raising them ... especially when they are little ... that is in case you want an honest opinion by kids ... .
“Tom Palins DUI was in 1982. He was 22 years old. As far as the pregnancy thing I actually think it helps with middle America struggling to raise kids in the MTV world.”
You see that’s where PARENTS step in.
We don’t allow or watch “MTV”.
It’s pure garbage!
It is a struggle out there but we refuse to have that trash aired in this house and they know WHY too.

I currently have three teens and I think all kids should be mad at Bristol. They are going to be getting lectures for quite a while . . .*grin*
I like the choice. For better or worse, she sure looks genuine, doesn’t she? I hope that translates into strong, clear stands on the issues.
“Tom[sic] Palins DUI was in 1982. He was 22 years old.”
By the time I was 22 years old I was an officer in the Navy and subject to possible court martial for DUI or admiral’s mast at the very least, with the real possibility of a bad conduct discharge. The rules are the same for enlisted personnel.
22 is no excuse. None at all. The only reason the McCain/Palin ticket gets a pass on this from me on this is that it was not Sarah Palin who had the DUI. If it was, I would have to seriously think about not voting for her.
>>This pick is getting McCain more money and may get him more volunteers, but it wont get him significantly more votes unless Palin can appeal to female independents and PUMAs.<<
Yep. And he is!

Go past the stickies. It is actually quite interesting. They are defending Palin like a bunch of Church moms. You attack Palin’s personal life at your own political peril. And I think Obama has figured that out - at least regarding HIS rhetoric.
This is absolutely hilarious!

Did not say it was an excuse. Just trying to get the facts straight. The MSM is making it out like it was last year.
Not every woman is the same.
Rush just said that Palin was chosen to rally and expand the base.
>>22 is no excuse. None at all.<<
I agree. But there is the old “let he who has not sinned cast the first stone” thing. I suppose the fact that I know a few people that have DUI’s from their distant past, but are VERY resoponsible citizens now is impacting my opinion on this. Not one male I knew when I was in my late teens had not, on at least one occasion, driven drunk. It was also culturally a different time.
I’m giving a pass on this on barring any evidence that this was a pattern. Otherwise it is utterly irrelevant and anyone that feels the need to keep it in the forefront is exposing a latent negative bias regarding Palin. I’ve often said you can easily tell the difference between “Friend” and “foe”. I learned it from personal experience:
Friend = Tends to play down your shortcomings and play up your positives.
Foe = Tends to ignore your positive attributes and achievements but places high importance on your failures, no matter how trivial they may be.
I’ve
$10 Million Woman: Palin a Hit with GOP Donors
McCain Campaign Raises Over $10 Million Since Palin Tapped as Running Mate, By BRIAN ROSS Sept. 1, 2008
The McCain campaign raised more than $10 million in the two and a half days ...
I know. I said it would get him more money and possibly more volunteers. That was what I meant. But Republicans are only around 32% of the electorate. McCain can get the vote of every last stinking one of us and still lose.
As for Rush’s comment, she fired up the base. We’ll see if she expands it. IOW, the definition of “expanding” the base is the one I’ve already posited, bringing onboard independent women and PUMAs.
How come you left out Zogby and CNN? Those were pretty favorable to McCain.
I understand what you are saying.
Primaries are hard to poll, but the pollsters (with a few exceptions) nailed the last two presidential elections.
Losers complain about polls and poll-biases, plain and simple.
