Andrew Sullivan, May 31, 2001:
I think a fair assessment of these tactics would be blackmail and intimidation. I ignored them as I have learned to ignore most such threats over the years. To answer them is to give legitimacy to the very premises of their argument: that the most intensely personal details of someones private life can and should be used for political purposes. The truth is: no-ones legal, consensual, adult private life should be plundered and exposed for political purposes.
I ignored the requests for comment because there was nothing to comment on. . . . I was asked to confirm a story presented anonymously, the only salient details of which I believed to be untrue. Why should I answer?
The controversy, of course, was his posting of personal ads seeking risky, unprotected gay sex despite a public position against such sex.
Andrew Sullivan, September 1, 2008:
Why not kill this rumor with Palins medical records? A 43 year old womans pregnancy with a Downs Syndrome child would have been intensely monitored, and the records must be a mile long. Just release them, ok? If necessary in a closed room for reporters, just as with McCain. And we can all breathe a sigh of relief and move on.
Privacy for me, but not for thee.
He’s a Hypocrat
I can’t believe that just a few years ago I read and bookmarked this guy’s blog. He has become more unhinged almost month by month and is now one of the most scurrilous commentators on the Net.
The worst part of this is that Andrew made the statement after finding out that Bristol was pregnant and that she obviously could not be the mother of the new baby. Nope, wasn’t enough for Andrew. Andrew stated for the record that a woman has to prove, by release of private medical records, that a baby is truly hers. Disgusting!
I’ve noticed that the UK Telegraph has been very anti-Gov. Palin, no doubt because Andrew Sullivan is on their payroll.
You’ve got his number, all right.
And Mort Kondracke was every inch the lowlife tonight, on special report, when he assumed he knew that Bristol didn’t use birth control.
Andrew Sullivan - Voted for medical privacy before he voted against it.
Sullivan is just jealous of Bristol.
What happened to this guy?
He used to be a fairly solid conservative, regardless of his sexuality.
A little more pertinent to the conversation of the Presidency and that crusty old thing called the constitution don't you think???
You have to join the gang at The Corner who just ignore him. He’s perhaps suffering cognitive deficits from weird viruses he’s exposed himself to over the years. An MRI of his frontal lobe would be revealing...Sarah Palin’s medical records will be fair game when his are (and Barry’s, too).
what do we have to do to get this piece of garbage fired?
He got so caught up in the gay marriage issue that he just became extremely hateful to any and all Republicans. He’s completely gone...no more reason...just hate.
AIDS will do that to you..
Sure, but ask a gay man to see HIS medical records and ohhhhh brutha...have you got a problemo on your hands....
Hey Andrew....let’s see your medical records...
This guy is the lowest form of a scumbag. He solicited unprotected gax sex on a website knowing his own HIV+ status.
Truly a beast.
He works for The Atlantic. What he writes is what they love to hear. He used to constantly knock liberal bias in the media when he had an independent blog, but then he first went to Time and the talk of media bias stopped and he started to sound just like the MSM.
He’s no better than a KOS diarist now. It’s been a steady 5 year decline for Saint Andrew.
I got a feeling it is going to get very ugly.
I wish I was selling TVs tomorrow. I would make a killing.
