ABC: Palin Pregnancy a 'Damaging Revelation'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/01/2008 2:28:19 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Bristol Palin's pregnancy is a "damaging revelation " that has caused Sarah Palin's image to "suffer." Says who? Says ABC News, in an article by Rick Klein and Jennifer Parker.

In Palin Pregnancy Rocks Political World, Klein and Parker report reaction from a variety of Republican and traditional-values sources. Every one, from Dr. James Dobson to Grover Norquist to Chuck Donovan of the Family Research Council to a pro-life delegate to the GOP convention who said "the fact that her daughter's keeping it and marrying the father is wonderful," had a positive reaction.

But what do they know? Declare Klein and Parker emphasis added]:

Palin's image may suffer further if more damaging revelations come out in the coming days and weeks.

Here on ABC news there is a video of Obama saying wife and kids are off limits...earlier today there was a headline about Palin’s daughter on the top of the same screen with the video!

http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4883537

This entire episode is really a story about viscous leftist bloggers and the left wing press ready to try to use it as a smear weapon.

Good thing she isn’t the daughter of a democratic candidate, or she would be getting a righteous freeper shredding.”
No, she’d probably be getting an abortion and we’d never hear of it, because we generally don’t go snooping around in the kids’ business.

I worry about this because so many Republicans and so many freepers have accepted the left's definition of these as "damaging revelations" and are argue only that they are not true. It is as if the left claimed that McCain has been seen drinking coffee. The left claims that is hypocritical and immoral and destroys his credibility and fitness to be president. Our guys accept the premise that the charge, if true, is necessarily "damaging" even politically fatal and limit themselves to arguing that it didn't happen. McCain never drank coffee. Then if it is proven that McCain drank a cup of coffee and video is produced and a sworn statement by the clerk who sold coffee to Mrs. McCain, then the McCain candidacy is finished. He has to resign from the race. Republicans in Congress are not the only Stupid Party. Conservatives in general seem to fit the label. If our side insists on accepting the left's definitions of what is evil then our side is not fit to govern or even breathe.

Bristol has been wearing an engagement ring, she’s not hiding that, and why does the Palin family have to bare it’s soul to the MSM? It’s none of their damn business.

I imagine if the parents “forced” her to have an abortion, THAT would have been an issue. Only for Republicans though.

When I heard today on the news that Sarah Palin’s daughter was pregnant the first thing I thought of was FR. Thinking of all of the teen pregnancy stories I have read over the years, especially Jamie Spears.

Anyway, I was stunned about McCains pick of Sarah Palin but the more I read about her the more I like her. I am also the mother of a 17 yr. old. No matter how much I talk about the importance of abstinence I also live in realty. No matter what we say to our kids, they do have a mind of their own and will do what they want.

I think Sarah and her family are awesome, this does not change the way I feel about them one bit.

Sorry, when I was a kid, that was the normal word we used. No offense was meant by it. Honestly I think people get too worked up about silly things like using PC language these days. No matter whether you call them “special needs babies” or “retarded babies” they have the same right to life, their parents love and the society’s respect as any other child.

But I bet NONE of them think that this is fair game for public discussion/humiliation just because her mother is a VP candidate. The MSM attack is really going to turn off women, particularly when the MSM won’t even discuss the John Edwards love child story. And he WAS a VP candidate. This is going to backfire. Big time.

Well, I hope you're right, but the MSM isn't stupid. They're not going to condemn Sarah or Bristol but, rather, ask hypothetical questions about the situation. I don't know if it will be in a debate or at a news conference or just an interview, but someone, somewhere is going to ask Sarah Palin what her reaction would be if her daughter came to her and told her she was going to have an abortion. And it's not just going to be once, but several times with several different variations of the question- Would you disown your daughter if she had an abortion? Would you try legal methods to prevent your minor daughter from having an abortion?

I doubt it will be very damaging. Most non-christians believe out-of-wedlock pregnancies are normal and acceptable. Most Christians know that what you teach (and practice) and what your teenagers do are often different things.

We had 6 grandparents in the room on Saturday...3 couples. All of us have been clear in our teaching and practice on premarital sex. All of us had kids who had sex before marriage, and 2 grandchildren as a result.

Both grandchildren were there Saturday. Anyone trying to harm them would have been shot so full of holes that the wind wouldn’t slow down going thru them.

I’m disappointed when kids behave that way. I also know parents cannot control their kids behavior. I doubt many will vote based on Sarah Palin becoming a grandmother sooner than she expected!

And so? That question is usually asked of every pro life candidate, also the “what if your wife was raped and got pregnant.”

Thanks! It occured to me when the aforementioned 17-year-old came home from her auto-repair class on Friday, said she needed more tools and a “Central Piedmont Auto Tech” t-shirt by next Friday, took $10 out of my purse, and went to Wal-mart to buy takeout fried chicken. Like, I thought this kid was supposed to do what she’s told!

It appears that what Gov. Palin would have done was say, “Shoot, I thought this kid was supposed to do what she’s told! Shows what I know!”

Our current VP’s daughter had a baby not long ago...with her lesbian partner. He’s still widely respected. I don’t think a teenager that’s pregnant will really shock anyone. I’m only shocked that they are going to get married. It’s kinda sweet and old fashioned. LOL

The MSM and the DEMS are delusional about this.

Do you really think this will loose even 1 single vote for McCain/Palin?

Or do you think this will just make Sarah Palin more of a real American struggling just like most of the rest of us?

I report, you decide........

Let’s see. We have a pregnant 17 year old. Adultry is mentioned in the 10 commandments

You seem to have forgotten that adultery is sex between people, one of whom is married.

Find ONE verse in the bible that explicitly prohibits sex between single people.

May not be their business , but in this case wouldn’t it have been better for Ms. Palin to announce it to the public ( i.e. the voters of Alaska ) a month or so back ?

Stange that the current VP’s family has been picked apart on moral issues too, by the same group of nasty people. Remember the debate(s), Elizabeth Edward’s comments etc? THAT at least was about adults. This issue will harm the media and Obama.
