Good questions.

what is the most moral response for McCain?

You mean... what WAS the moral response?

McCain already made the call. He knew the die was cast when he selected Palin.

The Palin family should have announced this news to the world last week. Then the political decisions could have been made in an open and honest manner. Too late to do anything about this now. But McCain loses credibility in my eyes for operating in such a low-handed manner.

Thanks for thinking about an answer to these questions, as they are the important ones now.

VP pick was his alone, as you know. My only concern about this is whether he knew, but since he claims he did and I accept that, now it is completely up to him and Gov.Palin, and unfortunately her daughter. I think his decision to go ahead and put his support behind Palin anyway exhibits courage I have very seldom seen in a politician. I’ve made so many posts at FR it would be hard for you to look at my posting history about McCain, but trust me that out of the field of GOP candidates, McCain was third from bottom on my list of the ten or so. I do NOT like him, and haven’t for about ten years.

This, though, really raises MY RESPECT for him in a way that I can’t even express! His selection of Palin to begin with was extremely courageous, even though she has been at the top of my list for VP since about March (have you seen MadIvan’s recommendation of her that he wrote in February?). Now added to that courage we now have this factor that he chose to accept when he asked her to be his partner?!!!

WOW!

Maybe it is because I have kids (and I was one) and I don’t see occasional sins of children as NECESSARILY the sins or fault of the parents. I really believe when things like this occur in a family, the telling thing is how it is handled - is it done with integrity, or without. That applies, too, to the “family of Republicans”.
