One measure of how well John McCain kept his choice of a vice presidential running mate secret is that 67% of voters nationwide have no opinion one way or the other about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that she is unknown to 78% of women.
In fact, among 10 leading Republicans included in the poll, Palins name was the least recognized.
However, in Alaska, the 44-year old Governor and hockey mom earns good or excellent ratings from 64% of voters statewide. Just 14% say she is doing a poor job. In a state whose senior Republican Senator has been indicted for ethical violations, 84% say Palin is at least as ethical as most politicians. Most (51%) say shes more ethical than her peers (full demographic crosstabs available for Premium Members).

One thing I’m hoping for is that Palin helps McCain in Oregon and Washington state.
The approval number for a sitting governor is quite high....a good sign.
This will change in a hurry!!
Sarah Palin is a FABULOUS pick for VP. A real breath of fresh air.
But...
The campaign had better get her front and center in front of as many Americans as it possibly can as soon as it possibly can, and let Ms. Palin talk and let HER frame her role and the issues, before the drive-by media frames it THEIR way.
I think it’ll end up well, though. She exhudes competence and sincerity.
McCain will not win WA State. Period.
Rest assured the MSM will find every one of those 14% and interview them on prime time television.
I’m hoping Palin would help in NV and CO. Palin has a folksy attitude that appeals to rural westerners - a group that the GOP has been losing in recent years.
“McCain will not win WA State. Period.”
Yes he will. Washington is under scrutiny for the last election.
Very possible.
Oregon’s a distant possibility, but Washington - no way man. Although this does help move Colorado from the purply over to the solid red category.
It seems to me that when Bush the First was making the omnipresent "short list" some pundit was asking some RNC puppeteer about this local or that, perhaps even about Dan Quayle, before the pick was announced.
The pundit was waxing this way and that about a national unknown. The puppeteer said, "We can change that in about one minute." (Or words to that effect.)
Good Lord in Heaven, Palin's run a household with 4 kids (now 5) and a family commercial fishery business with her husband. She's run a city, and the largest state in the Union, more than twice as big as Texas. And her main claims to fame are blowing the whistle on corruption in her own party, and stopping the proposed pork-stuffed $398 million Ketchikan Bridge to Nowhere.
She's got tons more real-world executive experience than Obama, and she's the one who's running for the trainee position. Obama's at the top of HIS ticket, and what did he ever run?

Besides his mouth?
Sarah Palin is the next Vice President of the United States.
John McCain is the next President of the United States.
Sarah Palin is the President of the United States after John McCain.
Last month polls showed Obama leading in WA by 9 points. It’s now down to a 5 point lead and still falling.
I even had a few women Obamanots say they were interested in seeing what Palin has to say and were willing to at least consider McCain/Palin whereas before....no way!!!
There are a lot of Hillary supporters here in NV....so Palin may clinch many of the votes....
Palin is a self-admitted Feminist. So much for the fresh air...
They might be seeing the writing on the wall. I think after the first rush to slander, they'll ease up a bit when they see it isn't playing.
Palin will make a great VP.
