Swing States Could Sway to McCain
Newsmax ^ | August 28, 2008 | David Alliot

Long-held traditions of what state is red or blue are being challenged by this year’s hotly contested election.

As many as half of the nation’s 50 states could be up for grabs, reports the Houston Chronicle. That’s an overwhelming change over the years 2000 to 2004, when just three states — Iowa, New Mexico, and New Hampshire — changed from one party’s candidate to another four years later.

Among those up for grabs key states New Hampshire, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico and Iowa. Neither party has won more than three of these states in the past five elections.

New Hampshire, known for independent voters, could swing to John McCain because of his maverick appeal. Add to that some industrial states in the rust belt where McCain’s straight-forward, blue-collar appeal might play well, and the stage could be set for a major Republican victory.

USA Today reports that McCain is eyeing New Jersey and even California, a Democratic holdout since 1992. California’s 55 electoral votes could add heft to red coffers.

Some Republican strongholds could fall to Barack Obama, however. Virginia, with its liberal Washington suburbs, and Indiana, where Republicans have been facing controversies, could go blue, according to the Chronicle.

If things go as they have been,

Obama will win : Illinois-21, New York-31, Vermont-3, Delaware-3 (because of SloJo), Massachusetts-12, Rhode Island -4 California-55, and Hawaii-4, dont forget DC-3 Total 136, leaving 402 for McCain and a pop vote of 55%-42% with 3% for Nader and others.

Obama will NOT win, not no how no way, its going to be landslide McCain, barring any medical difficulties.

If things went the way the “experts” said they would, Hillary would have waltzed into the nomination and bambi would be veep. Obamacles is a losing proposition, a walking political disaster area, things are only close now because a large portion of the electorate still do not know much about him. That will soon be fixed.

“and may just go down in history as the most ridiculous figure in American politics ever.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I certainly can’t name a more absurd figure in American politics even counting fictional ones like Jubilation T. Cornpone. Would anyone like to try? It would be poetic justice if people like Chris Matthews could suddenly be struck with the realization of just how stupid they look when they rant about how great the Obamanation is. If it weren’t such a horrible prospect I would almost like to see him elected to show people what idiots they are to support him.

“Among those up for grabs key states New Hampshire, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico and Iowa. Neither party has won more than three of these states in the past five elections.”

That is not even close to being correct. In the past 5 elections (1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004), the 2000 election was the only one in which a candidate *did not* win 4 of those states (and in 1992 and 1996 Clinton won all 5).

There are 6 states that have voted for the winner in each of the past 9 presidential elections: Missouri, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana. Obama is even remotely competitive in only two of those states, Ohio and Missouri, and it’s looking very difficult for him in Ohio and nearly impossible in Missouri.

The electoral map looks very good for McCain.

For the last time...INDIANA will NOT go to Obama. I don’t give a sh*t what any poll says, it will NOT go to Obama.

I’d add Maryland to that.

Maryland is 30% black, and 90%+ will vote for nObama. There are also a fair number of Hispanics and Asians who will also vote over 50% for Barry.

Although McCain will fare better among whites in MD than Bush did, I still don’t see him winning the state.

Agree. I live in a small Indiana county where Democrat registration out numbers Republicans 5 to 1 and it would not surprise me if Obama loses it or it is very close. I have more requests for registration this election than every before and it is because they want to vote against Obama.

Mitch Daniels will be re-elected by a good margin and Obama will not come close to getting as many votes as the Dem candidate for Governor.

Any poll that shows there is a chance that Obama will win Indiana has to be conduct by a pure idiot or is being lied to. Not going to happen.

Give it up. I live in L.A. and already accepted my fate as a Blue State minority. Cali going Bama’s way is as inevitable as finding illegals in the Garment District.

Maryland has gone to the Dems in the last 4 elections IIRC. Montgomery, Howard and Prince Georges Counties are way to liberal to go for anything but Obama.
