McCain camp gleefully mocks 'temple of Obama'

Republicans, who mock Barack Obama as a self-appointed divine savior, gleefully pounced Thursday on pictures of the set for his big convention speech, which appears to resemble a temple. The Democratic presidential candidate will accept the party White House banner before a more than 70,000-strong crowd at an outdoor football stadium here late Thursday.

Pictures and an aerial film footage of the set being constructed for the speech show a curved backdrop with creamy, gray column-like structures, which could suggest Washington architecture, or a classical structure, like a Greek or Roman temple.

Republicans sent out an edition of their "Audacity Watch" email newsletter which they use to point out perceived examples of hubris by the Obama campaign, titled "The Temple of Obama."

Rush was avoiding Godwin’s law... barely.

Something about

That's why I wish everyone would back off on this story until it's too late for the Dems to do anything to make it less embarrassing. Then we can hammer them with it.

Telegraphing your punches before the event is stupid. It gives the enemy time to think of a way to make themselves look less ridiculous.

The election's only a few months away; the coronation only a few hours. You'd need *years* to figure out a way to make this look less ridiculous.

This is like being a safe distance away from a cat that pulled the pin out of a grenade it was playing with.

so if they tear it down we can ridicule them for the enormous carbon footprint of having the dnc in 2 places and building 3 sets

Tomorrow, the tingle up Chris Matthews legs will make him think he is being tasered. He will narrate as follows.

Here comes Barack. He looks majestic as he pilots his personal chariot, his robes flowing majestically from behind. The crowds are falling in his wake, much like those healed at a Benny Hinn concert. His gentle smile harkens to the Mona Lisa, his humility evident for all to see. It is a dark night, yet he exudes light that illuminates all that he sees and I personally am having tingly feelings I never thought possible. He waves his hand and all fall silent before him as will I. Listen to him.

Seeing as how he has a messiah complex, most of the ordinary folks sitting in their living rooms will link this movie set to his mental delusions.

At any rate, the whole setting is classless regardless of their reasoning.

BTW, I read a headline that stated MLK was a Republican! Not sure if true but it wouldn’t surprise me.

There was a similar ‘over the top’ moment in the French Revolution. A meglomaniac leader had himself portrayed as a god atop an artificial mountain. I’ve yet to find it in google. But that was the moment that the other revulutionaries decided that he had to go.

Let him compare himself to MLK. Or better yet, to Lincoln.

That will win over how many votes in the middle?

Exactly zero.
For various reasons, that pitch will fail for every vote that will decide this election.

If you had been born in the South and grown up there in the 50’s and returned there in the early 60’s to work on civil rights, would you have been a Democrat?

I think you are probably right.

I took this from another poster in another forum “least favorite person in history”:

http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=44393

Maximillian Robespierre, maybe the most influential figure in the French Revolution. As the leading spokesman for the Jacobins, he was instrumental in creating the new constitution. He at first supported a constitutional monarchy by when the king, pretty much in house arrest, attempted to slip across the border to Austria, Robespeirre decided he needed to be executed. Later he supported the guillotining of those loyalists who were perceived as threats to the new republic.

All not to bad at that point [not according to Arthur — good grief], but it seems at some point Robespeirre began losing touch with reality, attempting to introduce a new religion in France, The Cult Of The Supreme Being, in whcih he actually appeared dressed in some toga-type outfit standing on top of a manmade mountain in the streets of Paris. He began his final descent after ordering wholesale slaughter of ‘enemies of the state’ that led to the Reign of Terror’. Any body you owed money to, or had a grudge against, or looked at you wrong, you reported them as a loyalist and it was off with their head. Fittingly, as even many of Robespierre’s fellow Jacobins began to get nervous about their own heads, they accused him of his own brand of tyranny and it was off with his head.
