I’m not so anxious to see a woman on the ticket, but I’m also not blind to the many factors that go into choosing someone. This is the point when all considerations are on the table. Where in the country they’re from matters; what kind of experience (of course) matters; what your base feels as well as how might the whole electorate view them, all matter. I think Palin brings solid conservative credentials, is pro-life, is an executive, would add a balance of age, AND is a good counter to Hillary not being chosen for VP on the Dem side. I think all of it taken together is what makes her an attractive pick. I don’t particularly want a woman on there any more than a man (I honestly couldn’t care less) but there’s the total package of electability, while not selling out on your values (and angering your base) that matters. Now is the time to make those decisions.
All that said, I have nothing against Romney; only that half of you seem to hate the guy. He would bring an enormous amount of executive experience. He’s a little too leftie, in my view, but I also think that taken together and in contrast to the other side’s ticket, it isn’t a strong enough choice. Now, if he were chosen, I’m voting for Repubs (either way, in fact) and it wouldn’t be terrible, but I’d hate to see the enthusiasm on the Dem side outweigh our turnout on this side.
As for other candidates that didn’t make it in primary season, how does their loss then help win votes now?

Palin would appeal to the middle-aged voters [both women and men]. That ticket works better for me than KBH. Not to mention Sarah will look better on stage than Biden.

The choice of Condi is too clever by half. A black VP could be Steele. Palin is a good choice for a female VP. Rice needs to do her job handling the Russkies right now. And she’s always been too soft on the Palestinians, imo.
I think the VP nominee may be Pawlenty based upon two things I heard this morning on Fox.
In the 9:00 hour Bill Hemmer (FNC) asked his quest, Michael Steele, who he hoped McCain’s pick would be and he said, “Pawlenty”, elaborating on his reasons for why he would be a good choice.
In the 10:00 hour (10:20 aprox), Hemmer had Rush Limbaugh on the phone to get his take on the DNC convention so far and Hillary’s speech last night in particular.
During the phone interview, Hemmer asked Rush who he thought would be a good VP choice for McCain that would excite his base. Rush said that the McCain campaign is really hitting on all cylinders right now, what with all the great ads they’re putting out, etc., and that McCain needs to make sure he doesn’t blow it with a bad VP choice. He mentioned Pawlenty’s name first, as “one that would excite the base” and Romney’s name second.
Just guessing, but if I was a betting person, I would bet that the “inside” word is “Pawlenty”.
If we hear Pawlenty’s name being promoted on talk-radio today, I will be even more confident on my take.
McCain may want to create some “buzz” out there about Pawlenty so as to give people something other to think about other than the DNC dog-and-pony show going on in Denver.
Cornyn is so tall he and John couldn’t be in the same picture without one or the other losing their head! LOL

IMO, this factor should be thrown out completely, any woman , should McCain pick one, will be spun by the democrat main stream media as the ONLY reason she had been picked. She will be devalued and demonized as being too clever by half and McCain’s judgment will be torn to shreds.
As to picking a loser in the primary season, I would remind you of Reagan’s pick for HIS VP, HE picked a loser in the primary and went on to win the election and his VP went on to win the presidency.
As I see it, picking a woman at this time will do more harm than good.
KBH is pro-abort, anti-2nd amendment, pro-illegal, anti-fence. Forget it.
Hey - I’m for Mitt, too, but I think the pick is Pawlenty. Who knows.

In her defense, maybe this was done as part of some vote trading viz. the partial-birth abortion ban, but I don't have anything to back that up.
That’s just the very thing McCain is likely to do... because of those reasons.
Remember what is on McCain’s REAL agenda. Forget all the pandering rhetoric his advisers are telling him to say to get elected.

McCain's performance at Saddlesore Church and his red meat ads are bringing back some of the faithful.
His VP choice is critical in keeping them.
[ON HER OWN MERITS]
In today’s political atmosphere we don’t need to follow the democrat’s fever to have the ‘first woman president’, the first black president. IF McCain picks a woman it will, without doubt, be slammed and slammed hard by the democrats media as trying to outdo the democrats and NOTHING MORE.
We first have to distant ourselves from this present atmosphere and THEN search for a woman who can assume the presidency based on her competency, toughness and solid credentials NOT because she would be a first for the Republican Party.
The democrats are in the midst of trying to install the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT who has so little experience it’s laughable and they are in very serious trouble which is going to backfire in classic proportions come November.
