Doesn’t Mr. Sowell mean Republicans ran as Republicans in 1994 (rather than 2004) and won?

Incidentally, IMHO the House Bank scandal was a major factor in the Republican House victory in 1994.

Thomas Sowell should be speaking at the RNC.

Or, perhaps, accepting the nomination for vice president.

Or, even better, one step up from that.

Annother wonderful article by the man who should be president! I wish more of our politicians had his intuition, level-headedness, & frankness.

I believe he is speaking of 2004. We picked up 4 seats in the Senate for 55 and 3 seats in the House for 232, we got firm control of Congress and blew it 2 years later.

Amen to that. Our country would be run for the people if the majority could think like Dr. Sowell.

The reason so many people misunderstand so many issues is not that these issues are so complex, but that people do not want a factual or analytical explanation that leaves them emotionally unsatisfied.

I'm to the point in my life now that I almost want an emotionally unsatisfying explanation.

Right after liberal Democrats, the most dangerous politicians are country club Republicans.

I think he got the order wrong. Country club Republicans are the more dangerous, because they take up space that could be occupied by real Republicans. They are usually well funded, so they get elected by Republicans, but once in office, they behave like Democrats.

I perceive our Mr. Sowell is feeling a bit anxious and with a few more clouds than sunshine overhead.

One of the problems with successfully dealing with threats is that people start believing that there is no threat. That is where we are, seven years after 9/11, so that reminding people of terrorist dangers can be dismissed as "the politics of fear" by Barack Obama, who has a rhetorical answer for everything.

He's right. But then again, "no good deed goes unpunished". Give people welfare? They claim it isn't enough. Give them freedom, they demand more. Democrats play off that rubric. Babe Ruth just had to hit those home runs.

But then... again. I too know what Presidential Season is like Around the San Francisco Bay Area, North, south, east, west: Liberals at decibel 10 in all their zaniness and sloganeering.

BO may try to take NC; and he may indeed get the black and moonbat vote; but what I'm overhearing...... is people in their private conversations... and they are black and moonbat getting worried too. They are seeing chaos at the convention, and are wondering... "is this the change we want???" Nope.

Michelle Obama allegedly hit one out of the park last night. And she's going to chastize the moonbats after election? Not likely. Those living in crime-addled areas want relief from the criminals; not encouragement; or a "let's be nice". Can you imagine any from the DNC dais, from the podium, telling the Lib Protestors in Denver to chill? To stop running up costs and stresses for city fathers, law enforcement, and local citizens?

There's the snapshot for the day.

Perhaps the nicest way I've ever heard of calling someone "an empty suit".
"the politics of fear" is as usual a slander and an inversion of meaning, a way of attacking the politics of resolve.

Calling the politics of resolve "the politics of fear" is actually the politics of smear.

What is that quote? Small minds talk about things. Mediocre minds talk about people. Great minds talk about ideas.

>>Thomas Sowell should be speaking at the RNC.

Not so fast, Tonto. Years ago I heard Sowell speak in Denver at an assembly sponsored by the Colorado Coalition for Teaching Economics in High Schools. At the end, he was asked to comment on teaching economics in high school. His response cut them to the quick: “Try teaching kids to read. To spell. To add and subtract. Forget economics.” Can you see him doing that as a VP?

Just happened to see your comment and thought I would tell you I strongly agree. I have heard Rush rail against them from time to time over the years.
