ACORN Watch, Pt II: Obama hid $800,000 payment to ACORN through “Citizen Services, Inc.”

There’s much more to the story of Obama’s amended campaign finance reports than what Obama and the Obamedia will tell you. I will fill you in on what’s missing in a moment. What we have here, essentially, is Obama using a non-profit group called Citizens Services Inc. as a front to funnel payments to ACORN for campaign advance work. Obama officials say it’s no big deal. Nothing to see here. Move along. But where there’s left-wing laundering smoke, there’s fire. CSI has been the subject of a little-noticed complaint to the FEC by a Democrat who smelled something rotten going on between CSI, ACORN, and a left-wing 527, Communities Voting Together.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has details:

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat’s campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.

An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. — a subsidiary of ACORN — worked in “get-out-the-vote” projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.

I remember this. ACORN demanded exemption from it's "living wage" law.

"ACORN and the Minimum Wage – ACORN promotes local ordinances that would force businesses to pay a minimum wage in excess of $12 per hour. In 1995, however, ACORN sued the state of California to have its employees exempted from the state minimum wage. ACORN argued that being forced to pay higher wages would mean that they would hire fewer employees. In an even more laughable argument, ACORN stated that paying its employees a lower wage would allow them to be more sympathetic to the low-and moderate-income families they were attempting to help. ACORN argued that these two factors would limit their ability to promote their agenda and would therefore be a violation of their First Amendment rights. The trial court judge dismissed ACORN’s suits, stating, 'leaving aside the latter argument’s absurdity … we find ACORN to be laboring under a fundamental misconception of constitutional law.'"

Citizen Services is a paper organization. What does that mean? It has no employees and no office space. It does not advertise its services. And it shares a physical address in New Orleans with ACORN. It appears to be no more than a front or cut out used to move money in order to obscure the final expenditure. Let’s see the invoices Citizen Services submitted to the Obama campaign. There is no doubt the money initially went to Citizen Services. The question is, what did the money actually buy? And, who was the ultimate recipient?
