Two Republicans who know say McCain has settled on Mitt Romney as his running mate. Developing...

Normally the usual suspects would have called back to the bunkers for reinforcements long before now.
I'm trying to figure the odds on when this gets moved to the Smokey Back Room or a religion moderator gets involved.
I'm thinking the mods are invoked by 350, the first person gets the warning or 'time out' suspension by 450 and it gets moved somewhere around 500.
Ah, I didn’t say Romney was behind there efforts.
And how would it disqualify him?
Go read some of the blogs of the Mittsters.
Several weeks ago they were already reporting that they have inside info that its Mitt!
Mymanmitt.com is just one example. Then it gets picked up by other blogs, yada yada.
The blogger doesn’t know, he just likes starting the rumor.
For the record ...
“Romney was sworn in as the 70th governor of Massachusetts on January 2, 2003. Upon entering office, Romney faced a projected $3 billion deficit, Through a combination of spending cuts, increased fees, and removal of corporate tax loopholes, by 2006 the state had a $700 million surplus and was able to cut taxes.
The state legislature, with Romney’s support, also cut spending by $1.6 billion, including $700 million in reductions in state aid to cities and towns. The cuts also included a $140 million reduction in state funding for higher education, which led state-run colleges and universities to increase tuition by 63%. Romney sought additional cuts in his last year as Massachusetts governor by vetoing nearly 250 items in the state budget. All of those vetoes were overturned by the legislature.
On April 12, 2006, Romney signed the Massachusetts health reform law which requires nearly all Massachusetts residents to buy health insurance coverage or face the loss of their personal income tax exemption. The bill also establishes means-tested state subsidies for people who do not have adequate employer insurance and who make below an income threshold, by using funds previously designated to compensate for the health costs of the uninsured. He vetoed eight sections of the health care legislation, including an employer assessment and provisions providing health coverage to senior and disabled legal immigrants not eligible for federal Medicaid. The legislature overrode all eight vetoes. Romney’s communications director Eric Fehrnstrom responded saying “These differences with the Legislature are not essential to the goal of getting everyone covered with insurance.”
At the beginning of his governorship, Romney opposed same-sex marriage and civil unions. Faced with the dilemma of choosing between same-sex marriage or civil unions after the November 2003 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision legalizing same-sex marriages (Goodridge v. Department of Public Health), Romney reluctantly backed a state constitutional amendment in February 2004 that would have banned same-sex marriage but still allow civil unions, viewing it as the only feasible way to ban same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.”

One thing about your analysis: if Virginia is at risk, picking Romney seals it in the Obama column and hurts in many more traditionally Republican places. The thinking is this: if McCain says he is like the Social Conservatives at Saddleback, then picking Romney puts a lie to his own words.
Been here a whole lot longer then you have, bucko.
Not going anywhere.
If you don’t like it, I suggest you hit the road.
LOL.. Okay, then just sit around and keep crying on an internet message forum while the rest of us laugh at you.
LOL!!!!!
That won’t happen - and you know it.
These folks are going to go down screaming and crying.
Most of them show up like a flock of retarded parrots with the same tired insults, ignorant statements, and flagrant inaccuracies any time Mitt appears in the title of a thread.
I’m just enjoying this for now,
Romney will be VP and eventually Pres.
There is nothing you can do about it.
Because people don't vote for the VP. Only political junkies and the media really even care.
Go back and look at the pre-campaign articles from Mass. if you want to see how he governed. He never had a Socially Conservative thought in his life until he decided to run for president.
“There has never been strong support for the likes of Rudy McRomney on FR”
I guess your memory has checked out on you. Mitt did quite well on the polls we had here on FR at the time.
All you liberals stick together. So, you can support Romney if you like.
Just don’t expect conservatives on this forum to put up with your dumbass BS.
This is probably just a head fake from the McCain team to generate some free publicity and get the talking heads to talk about it.
I really doubt if McCain himself has made a decision yet.
Cool! Did he also say he will no longer be a dupe of the “global warming” socialists??
I MUST watch that Saddleback thing. Is it on YouTube?
You honestly think that a Catholic presidential candidate (Kerry) is "pro abortion?"
I’ll drop the slimebag talk. You and I are on the same side, it’s just that this election has divided us. There’s no need for me to call Mitt names. It’s just that Reagan was pretty open on his journey from Democrat to Republican, with his radio speeches showing his evolution all along the way. We just have Mitt’s word, and I just find it hard to believe someone could have such a profound change at his age with no real outside catalyst.
Sorry for my earlier approach.
Hey Norm!
I’ll reiterate what you said, “Watch Saddleback.”
It’s available on YouTube. The difference between McCain and Obama is so striking I was amazed. At least give it a chance, Lancey. This is an important time for our nation. Obama is dangerous.
