Leave it to the liberal print media to find some way to kill everyone's Olympics buzz.

For instance, did you know that the choice by the U.S. Olympic Committee to have Ralph Lauren stitch the threads for Team USA's opening ceremonies uniform was an unfortunate nod to racism and classism and a futile, nostalgic clinging to America's waning WASP empire? That according to Sameer Reddy (pictured at right, photo via Newsweek) in an August 20 online exclusive for Newsweek

Yes, saris and baggy pants showing thongs and boxers would have sufficed...

How about MuMu’s for the weighlifters?

How about Buddhist monks attire?

Where does this skinny Indian find “fashion” anyway...the Ganges taking a dump with his peeps?

Yes blacks do like to look sharp. No kidding! There are about 20 major black clothing brands now: Echo, Fubu, Sean Jean, Apple Bottom. While the esthetic may not be what I personally would wear I appreciate the creativity that goes into it all, and the appreciation that their clients have for the clothing.

And of course a lot of the famous black rappers do dress to the nines all the time: P. Diddy, Jay Z.

“Sameer Reddy isn’t even an American”

I did a brief Google search and there’s nothing to suggest that he isn’t/is American. Where did you get his citizenship info from?

You know, I'm going to revisit this.

Sameer is just plain bigoted.

Lauren was the perfect designer for our team. I've followed his designs my whole adult life, though I wish I could have afforded them when I was younger.

Lauren is a romantic and his affection for America shows. You see the nautical romance, the equestrian element. He popularized for a few years skirts made of faded old American patchwork quiltes. He had a smashing southwestern line that made every woman go out and buy a squash blossom necklace. I have one, and it cost less than one of his sweaters.

You see old movies in some of his clothes--lots of Katherine Hepburn and Carole Lombard. Women who looked great in sporty clothes. His men's line was a little too elegant, but the women's line was never stiff or overrefined. He did America as well as St. Laurent did French. Probably better.

So Sameer is an effete urban bigot. Maybe he should cross-dress in a sari and show us how it really should be done!

Why stop with insulting the idiot who is the focus of this piece when you can insult an entire nation?

Moron (and I’m not referring to Sameer Reddy).

I guess some posters want to be as racist as Sameer.

Black guys like Tommy Hilfiger (or did 10 years ago), and many wear Izod and Brooks Brothers as well (including in the music industry and sports). What a load of merde on the part of the writer.

The guy is bitter because he’s not in the Social Register. I just sent him the following email:

To the editor:

Please tell Mr. Reddy that he will not be invited to any of my lawn
parties, croquet events or anachronistic cocktail parties.

He wouldn’t have a good time anyway since the people attending are in
‘the book’ and clearly he is not in it.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Worthington Frothingham

Of course, the preppy look is racist and classist. It’s also why minorities love wearing it.

I guess so

The other thing I noticed was the repeated slurs about this moron not being an American. The fact that he is of Indian origin somehow seems to deprive him of his citizenship (if he is an American, that is, and there’s no mention in this NewsBusters article about the same).

He is a moron - pure and simple. So are Nancy Pelosi, Cindy Sheehan, and Hillary. You never read about these “people” not being American though.

I am of Polish/Italian ancestry, and, in many ways, we were much better off when we were run by the WASP establishment. None of this multi-culti BS, none of this white guilt, none of this messianic foreign policy (Wilson being the exception), etc.

I don't miss rubber chicken dinners and Locust Valley Lockjaw, however.

Lol! I heartily approve and I shall follow your excellent example by alerting him to the fact that he will not be invited to this year’s FOX hunt either.

I have no idea what this guy's citizenship might be, but people who assume that he isn't an American because of his ethnicity and name are, at best, provincial and, at worst, racist.

Sameer Reddy is quite a fashionista himself. And all haute couture is by nature elitist. So this is all a red herring.

But when you have no ideas and have to turn something out to keep your job, it's easy to run with the "racist, classist" thing.

FWIW, check out Bollywood actress Sameera Reddy.
