We shouldn’t rely on them. Let private industry be our subcontractor.

Isolating themselves worked real good last time too.

Except they know that nobody will do anything militarily against them unless they really step over the line.

True. Removing themselves from contact with NATO is hardly a response......as has been stated earlier, watch for them to fill their hand with more support of the middleast tyrants in Syria or Iran...or possibly a move into South America, Venezuela or Cuba. Poker is a difficult game....I think we are winning the hand in Georgia, IMHO.

I suspect things aren't as rosy in Russia as Putin and his buddies say. The Russians for the first time are flush with money and they like prosperity but there is a problem with that. What comes with prosperity is individualism or the desire for freedom. In order for Putin to keep the people's mind from desiring freedom he has created a national emergency. It's an old ploy used by many dictators.

The USA made a grave error in Serbia.
Russia told the USA don’t do it!
This is the beginning of the real Clinton Legacy.
Christian Serbs fighting to retain land they have owned for over 2k years, Christian Icons destroyed by muslims that were priceless.
The Serbs thought we were their friends also. They were our friends. They saved American Pilots in WW2 that were shot down by the Germans.
The missile shield in Poland puts a target in the middle of Poland. It is not something to take pride in.
Suitcase weapons are the future. A shield can not stop that.

Slapping the Russians in the face is not my idea of making friends. I believe we had a chance before Clinton made his mistake.

Anything could happen... anything.

Perhaps a bad analogy, but I play games with Russians everyday...... EveOnline.

Russians love chess, they love moving a piece and seeing a response......while the West wrings hands and speak of "nuclear holocaust", the Russians will watch the response and move another chess piece.....

They are fine strategists and brutal when they strike.....PC bullcrap makes them laugh. This Georgia run is a test......a probe, a way to feel out world responses and to hide their next move. I respect Russians greatly, never underestimate them. I worked with several Russians in Egypt, UN peacekeepers, one guy once told me the only difference between Russians and Americans is that Russians know Pravda is propaganda.....and we believe our press. That was 15 years ago...I believe his view is now vindicated.

This is a chess game....

The situations we currently face reminds me of what Alexander Hamilton noted in 1787 in Federalist Paper 23 when stating the first duty of federal government was national defense through raising armed forces and prescribing rules for their direction. He said, “These powers ought to exist without limitation, because it is impossible to foresee or define the extent and variety of national exigencies, or the correspondent extent and variety of the means which may be necessary to satisfy them. The circumstances that endanger the safety of nations are infinite, and for this reason no constitutional shackles can be wisely imposed on the power to which the care of it is committed. This power ought to be co-extensive with all the possible combinations of circumstances; and ought to be under the direction of the same councils which are appointed to preside over the common defense”.

Russia sent their "third string" ground troops into Georgia...

I don't know about the Russian Airforce, but the Tanks & AFV's were "first string", and usually the Russians don't give the latest stuff to the "3rd string". Others that know more than I said the tanks were T-90's & the AFV's were BMP-2's. They had the latest reactive armor packages to ward-off AT rockets.

Patton was right, and Eisenhower is going to be exposed by historians for his short-sightedness.

Patton was right, and it is sobering to think of the millions that might have been saved had he been allowed to do what he wanted.

Hey, no fighing in the war room!

Seriously, The communists believe in a dialectical materialism. They believe that a step back will lead to a giant leap forward. The old communist Russians have just been lulling the West to sleep for the past few years, waiting for the opportune moment to surge forward.
