Defy us and we will crush you... Russia's warning
dailymail.co.uk ^ | 19th August 2008 | Will Stewart

Russia yesterday threatened to 'crush' anyone who dared to defy it, after moving missile launchers within range of Georgia's capital.

The provocative move throws down the gauntlet to Nato leaders meeting today in emergency session on the new Cold War crisis.

U.S. intelligence said the Kremlin had moved several SS-21 missile launchers into the rebel enclave of South Ossetia, putting them in range of Tbilisi.

The move allows Russia to pull out of Georgia proper as it has promised but punish Tbilisi at any moment at the push of a button.

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev vowed a 'crushing response' if Georgia or anyone else dares to defy Moscow's will in the tinderbox Caucasus region. ...

Mr Medvedev was at his most hawkish since the conflict erupted, telling war veterans: 'If someone thinks they can kill our citizens, kill soldiers and officers fulfilling the role of peacekeepers, we will never allow this.

'Anyone who tries to do this will receive a shattering blow.'

His warning followed Russian threats to unleash nuclear weapons on Poland in a future conflict because Warsaw agreed to installations linked to America's defence shield.

Moscow has also indicated that it will arm its Baltic fleet with nuclear weapons.

Awarding medals to servicemen involved in the conflict in Georgia, Mr Medvedev insisted that Russia has always been 'a peace-loving nation'.

He added: 'The Russian, Soviet state has never started a war. But even the most peace-loving state should have an effective army.'

Sounds to me like this is the time to put into Georgia batteries of Patriots, a Marine Air-Ground Task Force and the 101st Airborne followed by the 1st Armored Division with the understanding they will be backed up the nuclear might of the US Air Force and US Navy.

The only thing the Russian/Soviets/Czarists understand is brute force and the willingness to use it!

Ronald Reagan, bless his soul, understood this and won the Cold War.

I'm old enough to remember “We will bury you" When the truth was they were weakening economically and unable to feed their people.

Something doesn't smell right with all this bluster. All of a sudden we get the invasion of Georgia, the Fleet visiting Chavez, Bear Bombers flying off the US east coast. Nukes pointed at Poland, etc.

Could this be a symptom of some kind of internal power struggle ?

We have no choice but to ratchet up the pressure—everywhere. Close a vise around Russia. And, dammit—DRILL HERE DRILL NOW! The moment the U.S. Congress approves a full oil exploration plan, crude will tank $25 per barrel. That is tens of billions ripped from the Russian treasury, and $200 million from Putin’s accounts alone.

I think there is a secret alliance between Russia, China and Iran - a sort of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend.’ Everything possible should be done to undermine this alliance. Plant seeds of doubt, paranoia, betrayal, etc. They will turn on each eventually (because all three want to dominate the world) but it can’t hurt to exploit this early and often :-)

That's what scares the cr-p out of me. That a vacuum tube in one of the units will flake and start the first nuclear EXCHAGE.

That would be the first mistake Russia would make, and would be their last.

It doesn't pass the smell test... Something else is afoot.

I think these are acts of desperation. Whether that be for Internal or External stimuli, I am not certain.

The Russian, Soviet state has never started a war????? The author knows no history. The Soviet Union started WWII right alongside Germany, because USSR (per agreement with Germnay) invaded Poland from the east while Germany invaded Poland from the west. And, what about the invasion of Afghanistan in December, 1979?

Actually, I've been suprised that some EVIL genius in Russia, China,
Iran, etc. hasn't assiduously studied "What didn't the Axis Win
in WWII?".

And come up with a plan that would leverage the combinatorial power
of Communism and Islam to put a major hurt of the USA.

Especially as in the final analysis it is (as Marc Steyn says)
"America Alone".

Thoughts of this very rational possibility and the money our
Department of Defense spends protecting us...are one of the VERY
few reasons I can muster a smile when I pay taxes on April 15.

Travis: I wasn't aware that it was operational....as far as I had heard we have only one and it is still in engineering development.

On the other hand....what better test enironment??

You could be right. But the ChiComs have two main problems......the Indians to their south and the Japanese to their east.....I believe most of Japan’s oil comes through the Formosa Straights so Taiwan could be a big issue for them.

And China is having it's own internal problems. And historically the Persians have always hated the Russians. So I still think undermining the Putin gang at home would be our best bet...

Like I said before, these people are starting to act a tad irrational by turning public opinion in Europe and the US against them....this is not smart...and the ruskies are smart...so why are they doing this ??

Yes...that's what I'm trying to say......something below the radar is happening.....and not a good thing if Russia goes unstable...what with all those nukes in their holsters.

because their pride and arrogance overwhelm their critical thinking abilities. That's why there should be a major psy ops effort. Inflated egos act predictably even if irrationally. Very few people have conquered themselves.

I'm old enough to remember “We will bury you" When the truth was they were weakening economically and unable to feed their people.

Unfortunately they are rolling in dough, being the second largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia. What they are doing now is over control of a major pipeline into Europe.

There was an excellent one hour show on FOX last night, showing what Russia has become in a short time with oil money. Putin alone has amassed 40,000,000,000.00.

Saw the show last night also.....and I heard that about Putin....my first thought was where does he stash that amount of loot?? And second, if this is true then they have an interest in the world not blowing up....ergo, what the hell is going on with these seemingly irrational moves that are slowing moving world public opinion against them ??

another point on thatFOX show....I didn't notice any factories or other productive facilities being built....just monster real estate office buildings.....if/when oil price comes down that does not bode well for wealth creation

Either that or Russia has written off using the Iranians as their pitchfork. Apparently Iran was about to be taken out of the picture by the Israelis. So Russia is now at least upping the ante and may trying to drive some armor columns into Tehran.

Internal Russian power struggle is also very possible.

Travis: I wasn't aware that it was operational....as far as I had heard we have only one and it is still in engineering development.

Once upon a time, we never actually publicized certain systems until they were further along than what was publicized.

Whether or not that is still the case I can't say.
