Remarks by President Bush in the Rose Garden on Wednesday about the crisis in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, by as transcribed by CQ Transcriptions.

Good morning. I've just met with my national security team to discuss the crisis in Georgia. I've spoken with President Saakashvili of Georgia and President Sarkozy of France this morning.

The United States strongly supports France's efforts, as president of the European Union, to broker an agreement that will end this conflict.

The United States of America stands with the democratically elected government of Georgia. We insist that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia be respected.

Russia has stated that changing the government of Georgia is not its goal. The United States and the world expect Russia to honor that commitment.

Something I’ve missed over the years

Where have you been? Since 9/11 we've had the Taliban overturned in Afganistan. And in Iraq Saddam & Sons are dead, there have been democratic elections, the Shiite and Sunnis are cooperating and the Iraqi's are now exploring again for oil.

Lots of good stuff under this President.

Your President has played this extremely well. Correct rhetoric, not rubbing the Russians nose in it, giving them an out - and meeting steel with steel.

Goes to show that he is a great man, no matter what the left may say. He clearly just told the Russians to keep off, but did so in a way that not only allows the Russians to save face but to also have an exit strategy.

It is actually beautiful if one thinks of it, and shows that president Bush is not as stupid as some may make him appear to be. This was absolutely presidential .....solving a situation with a firm hand, but without making a bad situation worse in the process.

Dropping in the 101st Airborne as peacekeepers would be vigorous.

The humanitarian efforts will require escorts. I wonder if a U.S. carrier group has ever been in the Black Sea without Russian cooperation?

American aircraft carriers are prohibited from passing through the Turkish Straights by the Montreux Convention.

To be blunt, even if they could, I doubt the Navy would want to put an aircraft carrier in the Black Sea. The Black Sea is far too small, and a carrier's life expectancy in the event of war would be at best a few hours.

What do you think that “naval forces” would consist of?

Just curious—you seem to have a handle on this.

Some people are arguing here and other places that even though the Pres of Georgia believes the US will be “taking control” of ports etc, the Pentagon is denying this statement.

What I think folks are failing to realize is the Georgians are repeating back what was said to them by Bush on the phone.

I’m SURE that we’re not going to simply send in unguarded aircraft.

Sorry, that’s a bit dumb if we did.

Secondly, we can’t land if the Russians control the strips and refuse to let us land.

Thirdly, the Russians are BLOWING UP ships in the ports. We can and will see that for ourselves.

The truth WILL come out very shortly and we can all see for ourselves.

Fourthly - the Russians are at fault here - regardless of how anyone wants to view it, and they need to fall back or there will be some steel on steel soon enough.

Remarks by His Highness Barack Hussein Obama in the Capitol Hill Starbucks on Wednesday about the crisis in the soon-to-be Soviet Republic of Georgia, by as transcribed by his faithful Media Minions:

Greetings, Citizen’s of the World. I’ve just met with my Global Tranquility Assurance team to discuss the little misunderstanding in Georgia. I’ve not spoken with President Saakashvili of Georgia but I texted President Sarkozy of France this morning.

The United States is cool with France’s efforts, as president of the European Union, to broker an agreement that will end this conflict. This will allow me to concentrate on more important matters, such as Affirmative Reaction and Re-Affirmative Reaction.

The North American Union urges the democratically elected government of Georgia to stop resisting the Russian Federation. We insist that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia be rejected in favor of an “open borders” philosophy, which would be a model for change her in North America.

Russia has stated that changing the government of Georgia is its goal. The United States and the world expect Russia to honor that commitment.

Russia has also stated that it has halted military operations and agreed to a provisional cease-fire. Frankly, I’d like to take credit for that.

We’re really not concerned about reports that Russian units have taken up positions on the east side of the city of Gori, which allows them to block the east-to-west highway, divide the country, and threaten the capital of Tbilisi. We call it “central planning.”

We’re really not too concerned about reports that Russian forces have entered and taken positions in the port city of Poti, that Russian armored vehicles are blocking access to that port, and that Russia is blowing up Georgian vessels. The Georgians don’t need those nasty weapons of war…those are reserved for pseudo-communist governments, not little “nation states.”

We’re actually happy about reports that Georgian citizens of all ethnic origins are not being protected. Defense of these citizens will upset the delicate balance of “kwan” that will ultimately solve the situation. All forces, including Russian forces, have an obligation to ignore innocent civilians while under attack.

With these concerns out of my mind, I have issued a pamphlet to demonstrate our solidarity with the EuroAsian people and bring about an indifferent resolution to this conflict.

I’m sending Secretary of State Oprah Winfrey to France, where she will get real with President Sarkozy. She will then travel to Tahiti, where I will join her to catch some rays and have a photo-op.

I’ve also directed Secretary of Defense Pee Wee Herman to continue the dismantling of our evil military and to ignore the people of Georgia. This mission will be vigorous and ongoing.

A C-17 aircraft with my posse is on its way to Tahiti. And in the days ahead, we will use U.S. aircraft, as well as naval forces, to transfer Hollywood celebrities and their posses to hang with me and Oprah and smoke a fatty for peace.

We expect Georgia to stop bothering us about humanitarian assistance. We expect Russia to ensure that all lines of communication and transport, including seaports, airports, roads, and airspace remain in Russian control. Just like “Pooty” told me.

We expect Russia to meet its commitment to restoring the Communist Union and to get it right this time. We expect all Russian forces that entered Georgia in recent days to hang there and take advantage of the local hospitality, if you know what I mean.

As I have made clear, Russia’s ongoing actions have saved me hassle of sending those goofy CIA guys to Georgia to overthrow the democratically-elected government. Those people didn’t know how good they had before that old white guy RayGuns ruined it for everybody.

In recent years, Russia has sought to restore the Marxist political, economic, and security structures that are the future of the 21st century. I, and the intelligent Progressive in the former United States have supported those efforts. Now Russia is doing our work by taking actions in Georgia that are consistent with the principles of Mark, Stalin and Lenin…all those cool guys I really like.

To begin to repair the damage to its relations with the United States, Europe, and other nations, and to begin restoring its place in the world, Georgia must keep its mouth shut and go with the flow.

Peace out, People.

This is called serious / adult leadership - Which this POTUS/CinC has showed since day one in office......And has been steadfast since.....

Those groups of fools on this board for the last 5 days demanding war (action!) regarding this issue....simply have no clue...... This man, this President just showed how leadership in the big leagues works.......It is not a game. Nor a time for ego....

Once I got the idea that this is set in a future where Obambi has been the President and has formed his administration it made more sense. I really liked last two paragraphs!

Remember that Obambi has talked of creating a civilian army and 'youth camps' (think Hitler's Youth), and he has consistently used UN powder blue throughout his campaign, and let us not forget his class warfare tax policies (Global Poverty Act - sending Billions to the UN) - these could be incorporated for dramatic 'realism'.

Just some thoughts.

Polish it up and you might consider posting as it's own thread.

Yes, that was a very well-written statement, a lot of thought and painstaking care obviously spent drafting it.
And, yes, there has been a very fierce neo-crew drumming for `krieg, flammen und sturm’ here the last few days.

I thought it was well done.

So, did I.

Today, even a grumpy young person like Michelle Obama could be proud of her country.
