Those were really spectacular books. I think that I read every one of them within a one week period.

I’ve put alot of attention into the friendliness of Russia and Iran in the last couple of years, and I can truly see how this can happen.

The part that is spooking me is the one about the war of gog and magog.

Here is one of the theories on just what that war might involve

. Russian Theory: The Hebrew word 'rosh' in verse 3 is identified with Russia, 'Tubal' with Tiblisi or Tobolsk and 'Meshech' with Moscow, therefore Gog and Magog refers to Russia. This is one of the most commonly held views and is based on a different interpretation of the Hebrew word Rosh (used as a noun rather than adjective), similarities in the pronunciation of words, and the Greek translation of Rosh referring to a tribe of people found in what is now Russia.

I sadly must agree with you Dog. The cavalry is NOT going to be riding to the rescue this time.

The calvary has nearly been rode to death since 1990 and no one has stopped to let it rest much less seriously replenish it for it's future needs. Meaning this that we're already stretched too thin with what we have left {conventional} to do with including ground troops.

Poor leadership in both the white house and the congress for the past 20 years has destroyed almost all of the Reagan Legacy. It wasn't just the DEMs the GOP held the white house for 12 of these years and both houses for what 10-12 years? The Bush's, Clinton, ones like Warner and others all had their part. Not even Carter screwed things up this bad military and foreign policy wise but he only had one term thankfully.

Our leaders took a very foolish gamble beginning under Poppy and Sec of Defense Cheney by beginning the gutting of our national defense to the bone. This was compounded then by going to extended long term war in two nations at once while still not building it back up. Putin saw it coming and planned for it. Worse part is no help is on the way no matter how the election goes as far as our national defense and foreign policy is concerned.

My gut feeling is that something is up.. My attitude is this we don’t have the inside details that Bush has and the intelligence.. I hope they have something planned..

I sure hope I’m wrong and you’re right — I’d love nothing more than to see something positive come out of this, and if Putin can be forced to back down so much the better. I’m not seeing the end game for the West, though.....

There are many more prudent ways of dealing with this issue that are in the USA’s NATIONAL SECURITY INTERESTS.

Such as?

Our president should give his life over this cause?

I think he should be willing to risk it. Especially with a potful of the USAF at his back. Might show SecDef Gates what use the Raptor is.

Fox says 170 Americans are evacuated from Georgia.

Did they pick them up in helicopters from the grounds and roof of the US Embassy? Something like this?

I don’t know. The home of the former US ambassador in Georgia is lovely. And up fairly high.
I had not been to the embassy itself.

What was the USSR after in Afganistan??? Dirt, Mountains??

Access to Iran and it's oil, plus a possible war water port. Afghanistan was just a step. Turned out to be a doozy.

There is nothing Bush can do to force Russia to back down short of launching a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

It would not have to be nuclear..not yet anyway, and most certainly would not be preemptive. Preemptive is when you attack first, because you think the other side is planning to attack. The Russians are already attacking one of our friends. A few B-2s loaded with JDAMS would make a mess of the Lines of Communications of those Russian forces, especially the approaches to that tunnel. A few bunker busters on the tunnel itself would also be useful.

Same thing that we're after now. Except they wanted to replace Mullah control with Communism, which may have been an improvement.

In Genesis Gog is mentioned as the son of Japhet, grandson
of Noah and in Ezekiel he is spoken of as prince of Magog.

Gog was the prince of Magog.
Look at the ancient maps, Magog is now Russia.

Here is an original map published in 1862 in
An Historical Text Book and Atlas of Biblical Geography By Lyman Coleman

http://books.google.com/books?id=ADyAjluX8ukC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Atlas+of+Biblical+Geography+coleman#PPA14,M1

Here is the map in color:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bb/Noahsworld_map.jpg

Compare these maps to this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=turkey&ie=UTF8&ll=38.68551,49.482422&spn=49.559919,76.201172&t=p&z=4

“The Land To The North”
Russia.
Some things never, never, never change.
History just repeats it's self.

What was the USSR after in Afghanistan?

Control of the area, of course (after a century or more of competing with the British Empire for superiority, i.e.: "The Great Game"), and gain access to a warm water port.

How about something more....like a trade embargo?

Yes starve them out. Russia has lost it's breadbasket, the Ukraine, and must be importing much of it's food.

Wonder how the wheat harvest in Russia is looking this year? Could get mighty hungry in Russia this year.

Let them eat oil!
