After delivering a campaign speech, Sen. Barack Obama's first stop on his Hawaii vacation was a visit to his grandmother's Makiki apartment, where he also lived during his youth. Obama -- escorted by Secret Service and accompanied by a few campaign staff and a pool of reporters and camera crews -- arrived at about 4:10 p.m. yesterday and spent an hour with his 85-year-old maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who helped raise him. He was not accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and two daughters.

How is his grandmother’s mental status? If she’s suffering from some stage of dementia, that could explain why no one has interviewed her, and why she’s not up to seeing her granddaughter-in-law and g. grandddaughters.
My WHITE Grandmother had dementia and we weren't ashamed of her. We ALL visited her on a REGULAR basis and called her.
There really is no excuse for this or an excuse for how he belittled her.

I believe she died from cancer in the ‘90’s.
Therefore, I would guess that the reasons the kids don't visit grandma is because Michelle doesn't like whites, and doesn't want the kids reminded that their dad is a mulatto.
No, there is no excuse for his belittling her. But if she is suffering from some form of dementia, she might be anxious around those she doesn’t know well, like Michelle and the Obamettes.
I just don’t remember reading about any attempt to interview her or any reason why she isn’t being interviewed. Strange, because other elderly presidential matriarchs like McCain’s mother or Miss Lillian have definitely been in the spotlight.
Michelle's been banned from her place ever since she called her "Whitey".

He lives in a $1.6 million dollar home and his grandma lives in an apartment.....

Who brings campaign staff to see his grandmother, but not his wife & kids? Who would bring ANY campaign staff to see his grandmother, who supposedly is so frail that she can’t go out in public anymore?
This ranks right up with Edwards, “My affair ended in 2006 and I just happened to go to her hotel room after midnight in 2008” for not passing the smell test.
If McCain behaved this way, the press would be all over him.
My Mom had dementia, and we took the kids to visit her every time they were in town. In fact, they started visits to town with ASKING to go see Grandma...

There is something deeply wrong with this family. Remember Barack didn’t go to see his mother when she was dying of cancer. Now he spends just an hour with a grandmother he hasn’t seen in 18 months. Why not move grandma into the beach house he is using for the week. And then not take the kids to see the grandma. Obama family values.
