Excerpt -

GORI, Georgia, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russia said it had driven Georgian forces from the capital of South Ossetia on Saturday as part of an operation to force Georgia to accept peace in its breakaway region.

"Tactical groups have fully liberated Tskhinvali from the Georgian military and have started pushing Georgian units beyond the zone of peacekeepers responsibility," Tass quoted Ground Forces commander Vladimir Boldyrev as saying.

Actually, if one of the Scandinavian countries in question was Norway or Denmark, and the other was Finland or Sweden, we would be at war with Finland or Sweden. See the Nato treaty.

They’re coming in to protect ethnic Russians in Ossetia.

Lie. Ossetians are an Iranian people.

We don’t have a dog in this senseless fight.

You apparently have a bear in the fight.

The Jews were being killed after the US entered the war and made a foot hold in Europe.

Wrong. The US entered Europe not before 1943 in Sicily. At that time the Nazis were already happily murdering millions of Jews.

The Nazis at first wanted to deport them.

Yes, leaving aside the terror and "occasional" murder of Jews in Germany. The mass murder began already in 1939 with the Invasion of Poland, and gained planned genocidal proportions already in 1941, with the Invasion of the Soviet Union. This was 2 years before the US entered Europe. Read your history.

Do it yourself.

I think this comes down to poor leadership.

You know and I know that the BEST SOLUTION is to hit those nuke facilities in Iran.

I don’t see why the US can’t send a bunch of tomahawks or Stealth Bombers in to do the job?

Why?

We know the Israelies are thinking about doing making the strike and if they do because we’re too PC, then that it where the real flashpoint is!

When the Russians fought the Afghan muzzies, the US Gov supplied state-of-the-art weaponry that killed many an 18-year old Russian boy.

Proof that you're a troll.

You seem to have forgotten a little incident where the Soviet Army invaded Afghanistan without provocation.

May I politely note that you are evading all my questions? You aren’t gaining credibility by changing the topic every time.

Sure, and when my neighbor the State Trooper puts on his bulletproof vest, that means he’s threatening me.==

If you both has long barrel rifles then you both in balance. But when one of you guys buy new bullet prove vest means you are unbalanced now. Other side needs to balance it back again. So may be other side should buy the new rifle with special bullets to punch holes in bullet prove?

Actually, you may want to hold back the comparisons to Kosovo. If we compare this to Kosovo, the Georgians occupy the same role in this drama that Serbia played in Kosovo. That would make Russia...[Drum roll, please]...Bill Clinton and the NATO air brigades.

Sorry but I don’t care for knee-jerk reactions based upon racism against Russians.

Maybe your conservatism needs to come into question if you can’t support an airstrike against nuke facilities.

Just a bunch of old beer-drinking farts who sit around watching football who have to have an opinion about stuff they don’t know squat about.

Son, I don't know for sure how old you are, but something about your posts makes me suspect that I was helping protect the Free World from the Soviets back when your idea of a fun time was sucking on a lollipop.

Seriously, how old are you? What armed forces have you served in? What sources or experience do you cite to back up the idea that you know far more about current foreign policy than the people at this board?

Watching the social-globalist kumbaya choir getting their panties wet over this is certainly entertaining. Perhaps Rice will offer free piano lessons to Russian leaders if they stop being so mean and undiplomatic.

It is apparent from a good review of this military incident that the Georgian President thought that he could retake this province that Georgia has not occupied in reality for many years by entering into a fake ceasefire then sending in troops, quickly, hopefully to close the tunnel thru the Caucasus mountains connecting S. Ossetia to Russia. If they had succeeded it might have worked but unfortunately the Russians were prepared for this move and now the Georgians will pay big time. I believe the Georgian government believed mistakenly that the West would respond to their defense when the Russians reacted. Now it appears that they will lose not only any further claim to S. Ossetia but also Abkhazia. They may even lose their own sovereignty. It was a very ill advised action.

One wonders if the US State Dept had given them some kind of encouragement in this regard. I hope not because the Georgians are going to suffer for this action.

Oops, in my reply I put Putin’s name where Ahmadinejad’s name should have gone. Here’s what it should have looked like:

We’re already working on missile defense with Israel. And if you think Ahmadinejad and the mullahs would never want to nuke Europe, you need to ask why London and Madrid Train bombings weren’t Tel Aviv and Haifa bus bombings. I’m not sure you grasp this, but Europe is full of infidels.

OMG, you don’t get it! We need the shield to protect ISRAEL!!! How can the shield in the Czech Republic protect Israel? It can’t. Don’t you get it? Iran wants to nuke Israel, not the Czech Republic. Why won’t YOU stand up for the Israelies? Seems like I’m the only one.

Russia is selling nuke technology to Iran. Iran wants to not only destroy Isreal, but the West. Iran is a growing problem.

But right now, Russia attacks and invades Georgia, tries to destroy their oil pipeline (which also affects us, via world economy). Russia is the immediate threat to world stability.

But the world is silent, with no protests from the usual cabal on the Left. Where are the anti-war libs?

Truthfully, based on your recent posts, I'm rather surprised at your indifference about the people of Georgia being killed today. Do their lives mean nothing to you? Sort of like you standing by and allowing the murder of a stranger on the street because you don't have a dog in that fight. If that is your world view, I don't want to get it.

I never said I didn't want a shield for us or Isreal. I didn't even bring it up.

I won't dignify your other outlandish comments about me (or anyone else) not standing up for Isreal.

You are indeed correct and I applaud your service as I’m only 35 and haven’t served. But things have changed all over the world - radically in just the past 5 years.

While folks like you and I salute the flag, I believe Washington doesn’t give a rats a#$ about us. I don’t think they even see America the same way as you and I but rather as an economic zone. In fact I’ve read from their materials that’s how they view the US. It’s nothing more than a borderless zone where the Feds don’t give a sh$#t about MS13 and the like but will go after someone evading their taxes.

And that shield can’t protect Israel way up there in Europe

Yes, it does! The item of primary importance is not the 6 interceptors, it is the radar installation.

All this angst by the Rooskies is about the radar. This radar is capable of seeing everything they do, where currently there are ways to avoid the long range radars in the area by way of scrambling the weaker coverage and screwing up the returns..

The radar is in a necessary place to triangulate the flight paths of missiles launched from Iran. Too close, and you can't get the accuracy you need from the apogee to reentry and target.

It's all about the radar, and we tried to let them have full access to it, but no dice. We have no hidden agenda here, but they do. This facility will never be completed, as they will do what it takes to keep it unplugged.

Most South Ossetians are happy with Russians taking over ...

One-third of South Ossetia people are ethnic Georgians. Generally speaking, these people don't want to be taken over by Russia. Of course the number was much higher before ethnic Georgians were cleansed from South Ossetia in the early nineties.

Do you want to bet the remaining ones will be ethnically cleansed with Russia taking over.

It's a real "happy" time for So. Ossetians, right?

Russia should stay the hell out of Georgia's So. Ossetia.

I meant to say, they’ll send a team of agents with tricked AR15’s and combat gear after someone evading their taxes but won’t touch MS13 with a ten foot pool.
