I opposed then and now the US policy in Kosovo. Read my comments on other threads. Kosovo was a huge mistake by Clinton and was continued unfortunately by Bush. However our wrong in Kosovo does not mean that Georgia has to suffer. What we did in Kosovo was wrong, just like Russia now is wrong.

Georgians still have vivid memories and remember when the Soviet Union forcibly annexed Georgia.

--------------------------------------------------------------

HUH!!!??? rewriting history are we?

No I am not. This what the CIA say about the take over of Georgia by Stalin:

An excerpt -

"Subsequently, the Ottoman and Persian empires competed for influence in the region. Georgia was absorbed into the Russian Empire in the 19th century. Independent for three years (1918-1921) following the Russian revolution, it was forcibly incorporated into the USSR until the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991."

Read up on ou basic history - a little knowledge could eliminate most of the idiotic russophobic posts on this thread. South Ossetia’s connection to Georgia is through its once favorite son: Stalin.

Cool. Let's restore all regions of the world back to their political status over one hundred years ago. And why stop there? Let's go to the 1800's and totally break apart Georgia and many other countries of the world.

How brilliant you are.

Most South Ossetians hold Russian passports...got it

Most Mexicans living in this country hold Mexican citizenship.

Get it?

I doubt it.

I’m very conservative, very rightwing by the way.

I question the conservative claim (unless it's the old Soviet definition of conservative, which means you're a Stalinist), but I can speak unequivocally that he is very, very zotted. And we don't need a dictionary or context to parse that.

The Jews were being killed after the US entered the war and made a foot hold in Europe.

The Nazis at first wanted to deport them. --- Read your history.

What? What are you implying with those statements?

"Iran isn’t interested in nuking Poland! Iran wants to nuke Israel!!! And that shield can’t protect Israel way up there in Europe."

Please check the range of Iran's long-range missiles before making such irresponsible statements. It covers most of Europe. Shahab-4.

The breakup of the USSR had two purposes - 1) to develop a “capitalistic” economy without admitting the economic failure of Communism and 2) to get each of their former republics admitted to the UN as independent countries thus giving the leaders more votes and clout than they had as the USSR.

However, the former republics were not to misunderstand their “independence” and stray from the fold. Some have and are being forcefully returned.

Under the new Capitalism all the Communists Oligarchs took control of the key lucrative sectors of the economy so it is still run as before but with the oligarchs becoming wealthy. The Russian mafia is also still intact and even more active.

The breakup of the USSR and the “defeat” of Communism was a ruse.

I know you're still reading this thread and grinding your teeth at being zotted, and I just want to leave you with this parting thought -- ESAD.

Long live the Free People of Georgia, especially those sons and daughters who stood side-by-side with us in Iraq.

So you thought Hitler invading Czechoslovakia was legitimate because of the Sudeten Germans?

That is exactly what this reminds me of.

If it is a matter of trust, then the question must be asked: What exactly have we done that would not ony make it reasonable for Russia to believe we will launch an unprovoked nuclear war against them from behind a missile shield?

I see no American actions that could justify that level of mistrust on the part of the Russian government.

Wouldn’t you consider it a threat if Russia positioned major antimissile shield system in Cuba and Mexico which had the potential of nuetralizing our misiles and leaving us vulnerable to a Russian first strike? That is exactly how Russia feels about us positioning a missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic.
