Edwards urged to address baby story

RALEIGH - Former Sen. John Edwards might have to move quickly to save his spot on the national stage.

With two weeks before their national convention, several prominent Democrats are saying Edwards must publicly address anonymously sourced National Enquirer stories that claim he had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her baby.

Democrats gather in Denver on Aug. 25 and Edwards, as the 2004 vice presidential nominee and a presidential candidate who won delegates this year, ordinarily would be a speaker.

Instead some Democrats say convention organizers will try to avoid the lingering questions if Edwards himself doesn't talk.

"He absolutely does have to [resolve it]. If it's not true, he has to issue a stronger denial," said Gary Pearce, the Democratic strategist who ran Edwards' 1998 Senate race. "It's a very damaging thing. ... The big media has tried to be responsible and handle this with kid gloves, but it's clearly getting ready to bust out. If it's not true, he's got to stand up and say, 'This is not true. That is not my child and I'm going to take legal action against the people who are spreading these lies.' It's not enough to say, 'That's tabloid trash.' "

But...but, HOW can there be a "scandal"... if the drive-by media has NOT reported on it and designated it as such?

I thought Edwards only made love to his mirror?

It’s not enough to say “that’s tabloid trash”? Duh. How about “that’s not my child and here is the DNA test result to prove it”. This guy wants to be Attorney General but he won’t be able to go to the convention for fear of the press? The MSM is not going to be able to protect him much longer. I’m just sorry for his wife, much as I dislike her. Nobody deserves what this guy is about to do to her.

What does it say about Edwards to cheat on his dying wife and to his kids who are watching all of this. They will have to deal with the knowledge that while Elizabeth Edwards was dying of cancer, their Dad was screwing around?

He has as much integrity as Clinton did. ZERO

Responsible? Only because Edwards is a high profile 'Rat. The liberal media (NY Slimes)had no compunction whatsoever going after McCain when a unfounded rumor surfaced that he had an affair with a Washington lobbyist.

What’s wrong, Thrownatbirth (thrownatbirth????), do you think Edwards has far too much integrity to be responsible for such a slimy act?

Later in the article, the N&O says: Edwards is widely regarded as a rousing speaker

Guess Edwards thought he could make this story go away until after he spoke at the dum convention.

That could be priceless, right there!
Imagine Katie and the other bimbos, during O'bama's speech, breathlessly interviewing somebody who knows somebody who heard that somebody saw something.

Gotta give the Natl Enq props for doing the heavy lifting on this one.
The MSM had it pretty well greased to give Edwards a free pass but the NE makes them look pretty foolish.

He's a politician and a Democrat. By definition he has no integrity. Kongress has been screwing the American public for decades. This is just a more individual example.
