Drill ANWR: Realism over emotion May 23, 2006
The United States Geological Survey has estimated ANWR holds a mean estimate of 10.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil. This would be the equivalent of a "Prudhoe Bay II." Murkowski, testifying on behalf of the National Governors Association on February 10, 2005, told the House Energy and Commerce Committee:
It also says this. Notice the date of 2006 above in link:
"At over $70 a barrel, the price of crude oil is nearly four times the spot price on the day back in 1995, 11 years ago, when then-President Clinton vetoed drilling in ANWR. They say there are no short-term fixes, I would agree with that, but if we had authorized drilling in ANWR 10 years ago, crude oil prices would not be, in my opinion, over $70-a-barrel today."
I didn’t even scroll down to this first comment. I didn’t know the Mod conglomerated a few threads into this one.
thanks very much. someone else linked me to this with a chart on the 3rd page and the last paragraph on page 2 explains the diff w/ shale

I thought I had heard a few times that the US had more oil than the middle east so with shale, I guess that’s true. But at what point does it make sense to drill for shale and then count it as reserves?
I’m aware of the issue and the obstruction by the Dems. My point remains, why has it taken SO LONG for the Republicans to shine a light on this fire? Why didn’t they do it in 1994? Or 2001? Or 2004? Or ANY of the times when they controlled the House and the Senate? Why didn’t they stand on principle and shine a light on this fire and refuse to allow ANY other legislation to be debated, brought to a floor vote, sent to committee, ANYTHING until there was a vote on offshore drilling?
As others have pointed out, this ISN’T a new issue, it’s been around for decades. Don’t get me wrong, I applaud them for trying and I support their efforts, but without some big guns like the WH or the duplicitous DBM shining a giant light on this fire, I don’t think there will be much traction out of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, or the Dems. Right now, it’s being viewed as an amusing sideshow, but it’s not the main part of the circus.
Because the public wasn't angry enough to hear them and to stop buying the greenies lies.

Terrific letter.
You hit the nail on the head and, yes, the President has gone out of his way to overlook the petty, mean, calculating nastiness of his enemies.
It’s time he took a stand and Let’em Have It!
And, I don’t believe too many people thought that gas could almost double in price in such a short period of time, without some sort of extreme disruption in supply. And while there have been attempts by Repubs to pass reasonable energy bills, the public has needed this shock to realise just how vulnerable we truly are...
I am very excited about this! I can't stand this liberal poseur trying to pass herself off as a conservative to KS voters.
OK good, don’t know where I read the other.Great to know.
LOL! Good one!
Is my guy Wittman (VA) there? How can we tell?
I absolutely agree with that. Republicans have wanted to drill in ANWR since ‘95. The public is just now catching up.
Call him and tell him to get there!!

He’s not there today, but she thinks he’s coming back. They’re keeping count on the calls.
