Where does Obama stand on rap lyrics?

A 2004 video raises questions about the authenticity of Barack Obama's opposition to offensive rap music lyrics.

Last week the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate condemned the latest profane song by rapper Ludacris, calling it "outrageously offensive." The song, "Politics as Usual," makes derogatory references to Hillary Clinton and John McCain. Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement saying, "As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to."

However Obama's stance is seemingly contradicted by this 2004 YouTube video, in which he talks of his then-three-year-old daughter listening to "Drop It Like It's Hot" -- a song by rapper Snoop Dogg about pimps and sex.

"So, so my three-year old, she especially loves GCI. That song...'Drop it Like it's Hot,' she thinks it's 'Drop it Like a Sock,' 'cause she's singing in the back 'Drop it like a sock, Drop it like a sock.'

Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., of the High Impact Leadership Coalition says he believes Obama is "a father that's journeying and growing," but suggests many Americans will not see it that way.

"Out in middle-America, people who are in the middle of the country who don't understand where this guy is coming from are going to begin to see him as a hypocrite," says Jackson. "And it would be very important for [Senator John] McCain, if he's going to point out flaws, to pick up on things like this, and do maybe a collage or a montage of all these kinds of moments."

According to Jackson, many voters in America's heartland are likely to point to the Ludacris song as "an example of the riffraff" Obama attracts.

Most white guys like Obama don’t like rap.

Only problem I have with this statement is that i would say it's just another example of the riffraff Obama attracts.

Since Lord Obama threw Ludacris under the bus for his current lyrics, we have to assume that our Savior was quite ok with his constant lyrics about drugs/hoes/pimps/b*tchez beforehand.

Obama’s acknowledgement of his liking for rap leads to the probability of rap-style entertainment at the Dem convention. In which case hundreds of older conventioneers will not like it. Most Americans over forty have almost zero knowledge and appreciation of the worst musical form to ever arise.

I thought the demographic for polka was exactly the group you're describing.

A few of Ludacris' songs that Obama was ok with:

Ho-where
Hoes in Different Area Codes
Move B*tch, get out the way
Keep it on the Hush
Get the F*ck Back
Freaky Thangs
What's your Fantasy
Ho
Slap
P*ssy Poppin
Hoes in my Room
Gettin Some
Break a n*gga off
Table Dance
Gangsta n*ggaz
Yeah, MuthaF*cka!

Evidently, calling Hillary a b*tch was too much.

"polka"

I would agree with the exception being Irish polkas. Twenty minutes of listening to German-style polkas can be deadly. Maybe that's why the Germans invented beer...so polka music would not sound so bad.

What kind of father allows their daughter to listen to music about pimps and sex? That's ludicrous.

It seems like stating the obvious but not all Rap is about pimps and sex.

Indeed it does. But a lot of people here still think that so it was worth pointing out.

You could have john Cusack standing next to Obama because they both think the exact way as liberals.
