HONOLULU - At key moments in his adolescence, Barack Obama could not turn to a father he hardly knew. Instead, he looked to a left-leaning black journalist and poet for advice on living in a world of black and white.
Frank Marshall Davis had his opinions. He once argued that the public schools of his youth prepared neither blacks nor whites for "life in a multiracial, democratic nation." He called hypocrisy "a national trait of American whites." Advocating civil rights amid segregation, Davis wrote in 1949: "I refuse to settle for anything less than all the rights which are due me under the Constitution."
The depth of the influence Davis had on the presumptive Democratic nominee is a question. While Davis leftist politics could allow the candidates critics to group Davis with Obama friends and acquaintances with allegedly anti-American views, those who knew Davis and his work say his activism was aimed squarely at social injustice.
Obamas father was a black man from Kenya and his mother a white Kansas woman. They separated when Obama was 2, and he saw his father just once after they divorced two years later. Raised with the help of his white grandparents, Obama attended school in his native Hawaii with few African-American peers. He struggled to find mentors in his search for a black identity.

Stanley Ann and Frank Davis had a friend (Paul Robeson) in commone at the Mercer Island school as shown here:

THIS may be where she was introduced (directly or indirectly) to Frank Davis.
Frank Davis wrote for a number of periodicals in Chicago. That is how I think Obama was able to step into the organized position he had with ACORN and then politics in Chicago. From his connections with Davis.
A Los Angeles Times piece on Obamas early Chicago days opens with the touching story of his efforts to build a partnership with Chicagos Friends of the Parks, so that parents in a blighted neighborhood could have an inviting spot for their kids to play. As the L.A. Times puts it, Obamas task was to help far South Side residents press for improvement in their communities. Part of Obamas work was to organize demonstrations.
Although the L.A. Times piece is generally positive, it does press Obamas organizing tales on certain points. Some claim that Obamas book, Dreams from My Father, exaggerates his accomplishments in spearheading an asbestos cleanup at a low-income housing project. Obama, these critics say, denies due credit to Hazel Johnson, an activist who claims she was the one who actually discovered the asbestos problem and led the efforts to resolve it. The L.A. Times story leans toward confirming this complaint against Obama, yet the storys emphasis is to affirm Obamas important role in the battle. Speaking up in defense of Obama on the asbestos issue is Madeleine Talbot, who at the time was a leader at Chicago ACORN. Talbot was so impressed by Obamas organizing skills that she invited him to help train her own staff.
Talbot turns out to have been a key leader of the attempt by ACORN to storm the Chicago City Council during a living-wage debate.
On July 31, 1997, six people were arrested as 200 ACORN protesters tried to storm the Chicago City Council session.
According to the Chicago Daily Herald:
ACORN demonstrators pushed over the metal detector and table used to screen visitors, backed police against the doors to the council chamber, and blocked late-arriving aldermen and city staff from entering the session.
Reading the Herald article, you might think ACORNs demonstrators had simply lost patience after being denied entry to the gallery at a packed meeting. Yet the full story points in a different direction. This was not an overreaction by frustrated followers who couldnt get into a meeting. There were plenty of protestors already in the gallery. This was a deliberate bit of what radicals call direct action, orchestrated by ACORNs Madeleine Talbot.
As Talbot was led away handcuffed, charged with mob action and disorderly conduct, she explicitly justified her actions in storming the meeting. This was the woman who first drew Obama into his alliance with ACORN, and whose staff Obama helped train.
The City Council storming took place in 1997, years after Obamas early organizing days. And in general, Obama seems to have been part of ACORNs inside baseball strategy. As a national star from his law school days, Obama knew he had a political future, and would surely have been reluctant to violate the law. In his early organizing days, Obama used to tell the residents he organized that theyd be more effective in their protests if they controlled their anger.
On the other hand, as he established and deepened his association with ACORN through the years, Obama had to know what the organization was all about. But Obama was not exactly a stranger to the direct action side of community organizing.
Also raised by the L.A. Times backgrounder it said, Obama often says he helped prevent South Side Chicago blacks, Latinos, and whites from turning on each other after losing their jobs. But many of the community organizers interviewed by the L.A. Times say that Obama worked overwhelmingly with blacks.
To rebut this, Obamas organizer friends tell the story of how he helped plan actions that included mixed white, black, and Latino groups. For example, one such group paid a surprise visit to a meeting between local officials considering a landfill expansion. The protestors surrounded the meeting table while one activist made a statement chiding the officials, after which the protestors filed out. Presto! Obama is immunized from charges of having worked exclusively with blacks but at the cost of granting us a peek at the not so warm and fuzzy side of his community organizing. Intimidation tactics are revealed, and Obamas alliance with radical ACORN activists like Madeleine Talbot begins to make sense.
Now, do we have warm fuzzies as Obama drops intimidation buzzwords when he speaks in place like Philly? He has implied a few times now of action activisms that will take place if he doesnt win.
FRABJ MARSHALL DAVIS, IDENTIFIED AS A COMMUNIST.
THIS IS THE CHANGE THAT THE DEMOCRAT PARTY WANTS!
Too bad someone doesn’t ask Obama “Who is Frank Marshall Davis?”
After he’s answered with his ahh, ummm, you knows, then ask if Davis is a communist.
Would love to see him twist in the wind on this..
Of course he did, it was the type of advice that was given that we object too! No one doubts that all his commie mentors gave him advice, including the wonderful Rev. Wright, but we know what kind of advice it was and want no part it.
“Barack Obama could not turn to a father he hardly knew.”
Couldn’t hussein obama have turned to whichever man was using his mom that week instead of to a marxist swine?
Somebody needs to explain to Carol Platt Liebau (and Mr. H-)that Obama’s early Comunist affiliations are real — and not “wackadoo land”.
If Davis is merely 'left-leaning', then J. Edgar Hoover was just 'fashion-conscious', Richard Speck was a 'gun enthusiast', and Howard Hughes was 'a little eccentric'..
Davis said Obamas grandfather would never understand people like him because they hadnt experienced the humiliations he had, according to Obamas memoir. As he left Daviss house that night, Obama wrote, he knew he was completely alone for the first time in his life.
Yeah this guy posoined Obambi's mind against the very white people who raised him, loved him, and paid for him to go to expensive prep schools so he could go to harvard.
If Obama has the most liberal(left-wing) voting record in the U.S.Senate,then what category do you put him in if he goes farther to the left?
Will there be "action activisms" on Election Day to ensure his win? Things like sabotage of voting machines, voter intimidation, bomb threats, etc in Republican districts of swing states?
Dunham and his grandson would spend evenings at Daviss dilapidated home in Waikiki, Honolulus main tourist district. Davis, who had raised a family with a white wife, would read his poetry and share whiskey with Dunham, Obama recalled. So Obama's grandfather was the one who turned Barry on to the radical Left
There is something very strange about Obama’s family. Why did his mom only marry/live with black muslims? Where did his grandparents get the cash for prepschool and Harvard?
Just looked up Davis. He wrote a book called “Sex rebel: Black (Memoirs of a gash gourmet” in 1968 under a pseudonym.
I am going to get a copy.
Where indeed did his grandparents get money for prepschool and Harvard? His mom was a bank VP, his dad a salesman, indicating a reasonably middle-class but not necessarily affluent existance
Then again, perhaps the prep school and Harvard gave him a nice scholarship
“Too bad someone doesnt ask Obama Who is Frank Marshall Davis?
After hes answered with his ahh, ummm, you knows, then ask if Davis is a communist.
Would love to see him twist in the wind on this..”
Obama’s answer: “Uh er oh uh Frank Davis is uh er not the Frank Davis I uh er knew.”
Obama’s wheels are going to come off, and his campaign will end up in the ditch. No way we can allow this imbecilic marxist with so many friend and associates in low places to sit in the office of Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.
