BAGHDAD - The monthly U.S. toll in Iraq fell to its lowest point since the war began, with 11 American deaths as July drew to a close Thursday after the departure of the last surge brigade.
Iraqis also are dying at dramatically lower numbers with the war in its sixth year.

best of all would be no deaths of course, but considering how much things have improved from 2 years ago, when all the libs sought to guarantee our defeat..... this is good news.
It’s now Aug. 1 in Baghdad, so this “all-time low” for a month can’t be affected by any new attacks now......
Too bad for hussein obama. He seemed to benefit greatly from breathless coverage of the deaths of American soldiers. Now we know why he opposed the surge.
God bless President Bush and all our brave troops.
This has to be really depressing news for the Daily Sloths, The Puffington Host and DU boneheads.
Yes, indeed, the VICTORY that so many liberals and RINOs gave up on. Greetings, jveritas, you have always been one of the best and most steadfast here on FR, explaining events and developments to all of us. So great for our troops and for all real lovers of freedom to see this victory developing. Thanks to YOU for all you have done here over the years!
Obama and his cult-followers will be on suicide-watch as they realize that there big bet against our troops and against freedom has failed.
11 American soldiers dead in Iraq..... this month higher than any pre-invasion death toll.....
welcome news
I have always believed in VICTORY and I was very sure that we are not going to have it in 2008 because I have always had great faith in the strong leadership of President Bush and in the incredible professionalism and bravery of our US military the most powerful and most formidable military in history of mankind.
Even when the times were dark in Iraq and most were pessimistic or plain defeatists some of us including you, myself, and number of good FReepers never lost faith in VICTORY because we never lost faith in President Bush and our brave troops.
Now the defeatists including Obama are totally lost and do not want what to do. They cannot deny the fact that we WON the war and that they were on the side of defeat but also they cannot fully embrace VICTORY because it upset their lunatic fringe that control them and because it shows how wrong and unpatriotic they were.
When defeatist and socialist Obama was asked during his last trip to Iraq if he attributes our success in Iraq to our troops he answered "I do not know" and right there he LOST the elections.
You are so right - and now Obambi and his cultists are in quite a predicament because they sought our defeat, worked for our defeat, and now it is perilous for them to try to pretend to be pleased at the victory they disdain, while not alienating their fellow demented leftists. Ah, it could be fun to see Obambi squirm and spin over the next 3 months.
Daschle is deeply saddened.
Thanks for this Thread!!!.....
Since I avoid the network news like the plague, somebody tell me if any of the big 3 carried this, or did they find some way to turn it into bad news?
Oh, yes, Daschle may never get over this, he’s so saddened.... how he still looks himself in the mirror, I’ll never know.
You’re welcome. I hate to think of even 11 deaths of US soldiers, but the trend line is certainly extremely positive and there’s every indication that we are getting into ‘victory’ territory.
Apparently an updated count is 13 US fatalities, 8 of which were in “hostile” circumstances and 5 were classified as “non-hostile” accidents etc:

Ah, I stand corrected (slightly) again — apparently there were SIX US deaths due to hostile action, and bodies of two heroes were recovered but they had died in hostile action in May 2007. Then there were the 5 “non-hostile” accidental deaths. In any case it’s a trend in the right direction:
What post #35 above shows is that 13 good Americans gave their lives for us in Iraq in July, 2008.
Or more detailed...that we lost 6 good men to hostile combat in July. Two were killed in May of 2007 at the start of the Surge, but their bodies were only recovered this month, and another 5 were killed in work accidents (e.g. vehicle wrecks).
6 to hostile combat.
We mourn all of our lost ones, and each death is tragic, but on the scope of a *war*, losing 6 men during an entire month of fighting pretty well shows that the war is over.
We won.
And yes, it was a single digit month as predicted.

Of course, we hope for no new attacks...ever. ;-)
All is quiet in Baghdad as we approach mid-day. Social gatherings with Americans and Iraqis in the IZ are more festive and lighthearted these days.
If it weren't for the heat and the sandstorms, this place would be a pretty good one to hang out in. LOL
