Meghan McCain: "I Almost Registered as a Democrat"
usmagazine.com ^ | July 31, 2008

Republican presidential candidate John McCain's daughter Meghan is just 23-years-old, but she's had her own political evolution.

"I almost registered as a Democrat to be rebellious, but I registered as an Independent instead," she tells Glamour in its September issue. "Then my dad bragged about it, so it backfired."

Meghan, a self-described "total daddy's girl," registered as a Republican as a Father's Day gift last month.

Though she's been crossing the country by bus to help the campaign, she takes issue with parts of the GOP platform.

"I don't relate to the hard right," she admits. "I think it's time to reinvent the Republican Party. And I think my dad can do it."

Yep, it ought to be a hoot. Forget the Olympics. Hildebeast may be engineering her way back. Seems some pretty bad stuff is happening to some big dummies lately.

Hell hath no fury.

Oh, come on you know that socialist sap Obama is going to clean Scarface’s clock, seven ways to Sunday in November. It wont even be funny, it will be an embarrassment of Bob Dole-dimensions. The only thing left will be to trash the McCain-Lieberman campaign signs and rebuild the Stupid Party from the grassroots up, back into a great Conservative machine.

Of course he does. However you Purists delude yourself that you are in control of the forum. Do you expect that you spread garbage and no one will stand up to you?

I will tell you this: I am 100% confident that McCain is going to be the next President. You believe otherwise then that is fine. We shall see on Elections Night who is right.

Fine.

One quick question.

Is McCain a Conservative?

Spread garbage—such as what?

Pointing out to you what McCain is and what he believes? What he stands for, and what his record has been?

Come to think of it you’re right—that is garbage.

But a McCain Purist is oblivious to that.

Hildy, you can bet your bottom dollar that those who proclaim the loudest that they will not sacrifice their principles to vote for McCain would also be the loudest to bitch endlessly about a president Obama. BUT I no longer see the Big O winning. Some who complained endlessly and refused to support RINOs in 06 haven’t shut up yet about the lousy D Congress.

These essence of Conservatism is purism, because it is based on the precepts of Moral Absolutes.

This is what distinguishes it from the prevailing philosophy of Situational Ethics, (as in, the so-called "lesser of two evils") which is the bedrock of both Reach-Across-The-Aisle-To-Satan RINO-ism and Liberal Democrat-ism.

The former of which you apparantly subscribe to and will support with your vote, even if given a chance to vote for a Slate of your fellow Americans, Electors pledged to a Conservative in the Electoral College.

It goes the other way, too.

When and if there is a President-elect Scarface, and he starts announcing his RINO and Democrat cabinet appointees as early Christmas presents in late 2008 leading up to his inauguration, you will hear groans and roars of pain here on FR, a good portion of it coming from those who foolishly supported this Trojan Horse Virus. Of course others will be neutralized, and anyway, they will be busy starting the cultic, adoring, almost slobbering, "Day in the Life of Juan and Cindy" threads on FR.

I’m honestly not too concerned about what a 23 year old college student says.

I don’t think the Bush twins are example Republicans, either, FWIW.

There’s something about being a young adult female that just doesn’t seem compatible with being any sort of Republican.

Yes...you are 100% correct. There are those who always see things as half empty, as the saying goes. I prefer not to live my life that way and I think there are many here, like yourself, you prescribe to that very theory. We are happier all around. I feel sorry for those who only see doom and gloom if they don’t agree with something 100%. It’s not the way the world works.

Yes McCain is a Conservative but a pragmatic Conservative not a purist.

Agreed. For all McCain’s faults (and he has many), he’s a million times better than Obama. For that matter, I’d be willing to bet he’ll be better than Bush in fiscal matters and most defense issues, FWIW.

Purism never wins anything in the real world. You can go ahead and feel so good about yourself that you are PURE but at the end you will never win anything.

Funny thing, I use purism and high ethical standards in many things and it seems to work in most cases.

Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for sharing.

As McCain made it very clear with the unfortunate Phil Gramm flap - John McCain speaks for John McCain - no one else does. You are projected your own preconceived notions onto the thoughts of a candidate’s daughter. It’s kind of silly.
