Funny thing, I use purism and high ethical standards in many things and it seems to work in most cases.

Purism never wins anything in the real world. You can go ahead and feel so good about yourself that you are PURE but at the end you will never win anything. McCain isn't a purist. He's all for bipartisan compromise, and by that we mean that he usually makes us bend over for Ted Kennedy, et al.
