My parents were forced from their home in Dresden by American bombers. Can we get reparations too?
If he pushes hard on this, he will have no chance of getting elected. The whole idea is ridiculous. No one who is alive now is a victim of slavery, unless you count taxpayers whose hard-earned money is transfered to others too lazy to work hard.
In my youth I advocated reparations of some sort, but insisted that if they were paid the recipients would forever abandon their victem status, both for themselves and their children and STFU about the effects of slavery.
Don't pay. Sign up for 12 exemptions for your paycheck, don't make estimated payments, etc. If a few million people credibly threaten to do it, the potential pain will be such that the Congress wouldn't dare pass it.
I utterly REFUSE to pay one red cent for reparations. First off, even if every one of my ancestors alive during the time of slavery was a slaveowner, I would be guilty of exactly nothing. Second, however, all of my ancestors were busy being oppressed by the Czar of All the Russias at the time - they had no time to be slaveowners, they were too busy trying to stay alive and eak out a meager living.

Good. Once they start handing out reparations, I’m ready to receive them for the horrors my ancestors had to endure during Reconstruction. We were disenfranchised!

We could have a government check chain letter.
Everyone receives a check for $1M, you get to hold in your hands and endorse. Within 5 business days you must send it to next person on that check’s provided send list, so they can do the same.
It can only be cashed when everyone on that send list endorses the check and pays the next person on the send list a $1 fee, the last endorsement is the Sec of Treas, so the check ends up back to the government.
The cash from the check will be worth $0.50 to each person that check was made out to if cashed.
Spend a dollar & cost of envelope & stamp and you will get a $.50 tax credit the next year.
Would Obama himself qualify for “reparations”? If this ever comes to fruition, it will open a can of worms bigger than anybody can foresee. But I agree with you. I WANT some of that $$$ and I don’t care HOW FAR I have to go back in my ancestry to find it. It’s gotta be there somewhere...... I’ll find it. I will. And it will change my life WHEN I get it and it will make me love America for its generosity and I will finally feel “accepted” and I will offer forgiveness to those who did wrong 150+ years ago, and the birdies will sing, and I will finally be successful after having received my “x” number of $ pay-off from the U.S. Government and then I will SHUT UP FOREVER. I've said for years now....that is one thing that the gob'ment is very worried about. With the invention of the internet...we can organize millions of people pretty fast. Oh they would attempt to make examples of some....but they couldn't put 5 million people in jail.

To calculate reparations, you must assess the damages suffered by this group of citizens.
I submit that if the ancestors of today’s African Americans were not forced into slavery, their wages would be, on average, approximately $1,200 per year. This is the average wage in Africa.
By being forced into slavery and then freed, the average US African-American earns approximatley $30,000 per year.
Therefore, every African-American must recieve -$28,800 from all other taxpayers.
Return all African-Americans to their proper wage of $1,200 per year!

That’s about how it works now, except our virtuous political leaders and the representatives of the “oppressed” take their cut before it reaches the Treasury. Oh, and some money taken out to pay for people who won’t work, or who have multiple babies out of wedlock. And soon, taxes on breathing (green taxes). But before long, where is that money going to come from, when the middle class, businesses, and wage-earners have been taxed out of producing?
