Did they happen to say which direction from them the epicenter was? We used to live in Rowland Hights.

No, we got off the phone pretty quickly. 5 miles from Yorba Linda and 5 miles from Diamond Bar if that helps you.

I grew up in Rowland Heights! Graduated from RHS in 87.

Not much despite it feeling as large as the Whittier quake. The chart I posted at #352 should update as reports come in.

If it’s Lucy, I once heard her tell an idiot reporter who was demanding to know when the next aftershock would be that they tended to be random events, which makes them sort of... well... random. I enjoy her wit.

My daughter is at summer camp at UCFullerton as we speak.

She'll be fine.... It really wasn't that big.

Still get around without a walker?

Yup. Full bladder control, too. Drooling's becoming a problem, though.

I used to live about 10 miles from the epicenter. I'll take West Tenn. tornadoes any day to an earthquake. At least we have warning.

Yep. Water sloshing out of swimming pools, cars that were parked together being just mm apart or worse, gas mains exploding down the street so it looks like a war zone, all kinds of stuff gets thrown around in earthquakes.

I had to take a shower, has Shep cried or called Ray Nagin or talked about a broken window for 10 mins?

Whittier did more damage to my home than Northridge even though I live close to Northridge.

My folks lived just up the street from the high school. Up on the hill above the Baptist church.

We lived on Abert across the street from the school.

Small world.

I never thought about why I hear earthquakes, just knew I did. But what you wrote makes sense. Both times I was near a window. It is a bit of a warning, but not much.

Doesn't seem to have been much damage reported as yet on the local TV channels....

I had some books knocked out of a book case and a lamp on top of file drawers was knocked over....

We live on a hillside, and if something should go I’m jumping ship.

Good plan. When it goes from rockin' and rollin' to slippin' and slidin', JUMP! lol.

Things fell off the shelves here in Long Beach, should I head for the Superdome yet?

I think it’s a real mistake for folks not to make a conscious decision to take a moment to pause and think through their moves carefully after a quake. And then you need to be thinking defensively against a host of problems.

Some people freak out, and heaven only knows if they’ll go through a red light in a panic or not. Quakes really unhinge some people.

I had a friend in the ‘72 Sylmar quake. He was the opener of a Mobil service station at Foothill and Pennsylvania in La Crescenta. He watched the waves of the quake gown down Foothill and it unnerved him.

He fled the station in his car and drove home leaving it completely open to the public.

He is terrified of quakes to this day.

In a bad quake, you don’t want to be driving. Power lines could come down all over the place and gas and water mains are also a serious threat.

Thanks. Anyone know if Air Canada has issues?

LOL! Have you ever flown Air Canada?

'Issues' is the least of their problems! I'm Canadian, and I fly AA! By choice!

;-)
