An earthquake is now rocking the Southern California area. (I'm near Dodger Stadium)
As I post this, the USGS has not yet determined the epicenter so click on the link above for the exact location and magnitude from the USGS.
Here are the maps for California and Los Angeles:

Here's the historical review of the last seven days:
Come on up!
The Cascadia fault is LT 200 years till it’s overdue for a 9.0+
Something like 6 events that big in the last 3000 years, last big one was 1699.
Ya nut ! ;0)
what beach? My house is in Long Beach. Hope my dogs are fine.
Do I know you, Fresno pal?
??? Are you talking about the Northridge quake in 94? That was a 6.7.
The 1994 Northridge quake was a 6.7
If California gets hit by an 8.9 it will cease to exist as we know it.
If the shaking builds in intensity and goes on for a while you will reach a point where you say 'this is getting series'. Usually it is over before it gets that far.
Wow, indeed, Ernest. How was the shaking where you are? It shook hard here and for too long here.
“WOW!!! Chino Hills is not far from me.”
Same here Doug. I can look out the front window at Chino Hills about ten miles away with Saddleback, Corona, off to the left.
This place literally Jumped at the first shock. I was hanging onto the kitchen counter through the balance of the act.
Guess I won’t need a ticker check for awhile. All seems well.
Close...that's the Northridge quake you're describing. It was a 6.7 magnitude quake.
Groovy! I rode the wave.
A friend of mine is scheduled to fly into LAX this afternoon. Pls post any updates and thanks.
At least we knew Dolly was coming. :)
You can run from hurricanes.
I don’t miss these darn eq’s one bit. I do miss parts of California though.
Not only does Free Repbulic’s servers exist in California, but California is more frequently than not the state that donates the most to keep it running.
My folks’s house was within 5 miles of the Northridge epicenter in the 1994.
But that one was around 6.8.....that was our "big one" (I hope). Thank God for cheap EQ insurance at the time; State Farm paid us the big bucks.
Ok, so maybe it wasn’t registered as 8.9, but that’s what the word was...and it sure felt like it where I was at.
The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in Reseda, a neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a “strong” moment magnitude of 6.7, but the ground acceleration was the highest ever instrumentally recorded in an urban area in North America.[1] Seventy-two people died as a result of the earthquake with more than 12,000 injured. In addition, the earthquake caused an estimated $12.5 billion in damage, making it one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history.
Nobody Panic, it’s just China drilling offshore ....
