This plan is a non starter. It is just an attempt by the rats to appear concerned and reasonable. Conservatives need to keep up the pressure. The rats are getting nervous.

"I am unalterably opposed to drilling, said Sen. Frank Lautenberg, (D-N.J., a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, who cited a massive oil spill that closed nearly 100 miles of the Mississippi River last week. What foolish and silly people the dems are. Lautenberg, you foolish old man, that spill had NOTHING to do with drilling, a barge and a tanker collided.

I hope Americans are strong enough and in full force to get rid of the Congress this upcoming election.
They will never do what is best for America; just for their own personal agendas.
Please vote them out. Each and everyone. There are good people out there.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, ever aware of the way average Americans are being squeezed at the gas pump and through rising inflation due to higher energy prices, is supporting the plan. Yeah...uh huh...

Doesn’t look like a compromise to me.

They are just trying to offer some scam to give the RINOs cover to fold.
We need to stick to our guns and get it all!

"a billion new acres off the coast of Alaska to study for drilling"We can't "study" our way out of this problem....
Sounds like they are wanting to just do a little, so they will be able to say they are doing something, while accomplishing nothing meaningful with regard to increasing oil supplies. We don't need to study, we need to DRILL!!

"I am unalterably opposed to drilling, said Sen. Frank Lautenberg Wait. When did he say this? I could have sworn I heard this before. Oh yeah! It was in 1859 and it was addressed to the Seneca Oil Company. And it was Frank Lautenberg who said it. Are we sure he isn't a vampire?

“There are tens of millions of barrels in the reserve,” she said. “If you want oil in Alaska, drill there.”
There are billions of barrels in ANWR and the offshore reserves, and trillions in the CO oil shale. Why should we settle for “tens of millions,” especially since the Dems themselves claim that such a small amount of oil will only reduce the price of gas by less than a cent?

Nancy is so smart that she can tell the oil companies exactly where they should drill to find oil.
No need for all those geophysists and all that bothersome seismic work anymore. Just ask Pelosi where to drill...

Pelosi is too busy “saving the planet” than to compromise on drilling. It's all a ploy. What the Rats will do is tie some unacceptable conditions to any bill that includes drilling and force the GOP to vote against it then say “see, told you people they weren't serious”.

I hope the go-ahead-and-drill Democrats are brought to their senses and return to unreasoning opposition. I actually would like to see the price of gas stay where it is or continue to rise slightly until November. If McCain then jumps on it and hammers the Democrats for their opposition then the Nature of Congress will likely change for the better in this election. If the Democrats give in and the price of gas declines by $.50 then the Left Democrats will get the credit for Saving Our American Lifestyle and will increase their hold on Congress.

Just in time for the vacation season winding down. Thanks a lot for nothing! It doesn’t make a difference for us but we know a lot of families with little kiddos who are staying home this summer because they can’t afford to gas prices.
Yes, a family with four kids cuts the budget that close.
Maybe the hotel lobby got after Pelosi and Reid. That’s about the only people they’ll listen to. And the restaurant lobby.
But then, even idiots can hear the roar rising up in this country. 70%+ of the voters approving off-shore drilling is more a shout than a whisper.

I've said this since returning to CONUS earlier this year - This issue is one that IF the GOP played right....and did so aggressively would stealthily flip the House back to the GOP -
It very well may happen....

The legislation, drafted by Reid and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., would open nearly a billion new acres off the coast of Alaska to study for drilling.Study for drilling? That doesn't sound the same as actual drilling.
Are they going to play the same game they have done with Shell? Sell them offshore leases then spend a few years as they fight for permission to actually drill on those leases?
