“No, you need a Republican for the front page, above-the-fold, and then they’ll bury the Dems somewhere on page G-12.”
He was indicted by the Bush administration’s Justice Department. The 7 count criminal indictment of ANY sitting US Senator is going to make front page news.

It's no doubt that he will be forced to leave the Senate but it would be wise for the next Republican that wants his seat to pound away at the needs to drill in Alaska and since every citizen in Alaska gets royalties it would benefit them.

The wanted to make it happen as close to the elections as possible. “Culture of corruption” and all that.
Expect more. And some Mark Foley type surprises as well.

since every citizen in Alaska gets royalties Not so. The PFD distributes from return on investment, and not everybody is signed up. It is pure socialism anyway.

Compare the petty corruption of Ted Stevens ... to Chris Dodd, who inserted language written by Bank of America into the Mortage bailout bill. How many billions is that going to cost taxpayers ... for $70,000 in favorable mortage terms for Dodd? And where is the outrage for that?

Look how they went after Larry Craig and David Vitter. As I understand it, Craig will get his in the primary.
Republican voters are much more reliable (and demanding) than Republican party officials.

The primary is on August 27 (I think). Stevens only real opponent is this guy:

The Bush administration justice department that went after Kurt Weldon weeks before the 2006 election?
Newsflash: There are leftists crawling all over Justice. Bush didn’t do nearly enough to fumigate the place.

Only if Attorney General Mukasey (who’s a Republican) lets them.
