FOX News Poll: No Bounce for Obama From Overseas Trip (Obama's Support is Down)
FOX News ^ | 7/24/08

Posted on 07/24/2008 11:12:48 AM PDT by LdSentinal

The significant news coverage Barack Obama is receiving on his foreign trip has not translated into a bounce in his numbers, a just-released FOX News poll shows. Obama now holds the slimmest possible edge over John McCain, leading by just 41 percent - 40 percent in a head-to-head contest. In fact, Obama’s support is down slightly from his 45 percent - 41 percent advantage last month.

Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from July 22 to July 23. During that time Obama was traveling in Jordan, Israel and Palestinian territories. In the days before the poll was taken Obama had been touring Afghanistan and Iraq. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

Among independents, Obama has a narrow 2 percentage point edge: 34 percent to McCain’s 32 percent, and 34 percent undecided.

McCain has more strength of support from his party faithful. Fully 86 percent of Republicans back McCain compared to 75 percent of Democrats that back Obama.

Given that the independent vote splits about evenly, one might expect McCain’s strength in Republican support would give him an advantage overall. The reason that fails to happen is that the pool of Republican voters is smaller than the pool of Democratic voters, which means McCain’s party-based edge has less impact on the race than it might otherwise. In this poll 42 percent of voters identify as Democrat and 33 percent Republican, and that’s about where the party identification numbers have been all year.

Keep in mind, he’s not the nominee yet. Hillary is lurking in the back ground, waiting to pounce.

Then we will have race riots to deal with.

Obama is SCREWED! He’s not going to get any better. People are more and more seeing this guy as a pompous, arrogant poser.

I’m not sure Obama is actually anything. He’s qualified to be a shoe salesman, but not much more. He has no record other than his personal life to run on. Yes he has political statements, but as far as a robust record in the Senate or his prior public life, he is an enigma.

He’s the ultimate empty suit. His statements today bear no resemblance to ones he made days, weeks, or months ago.

Our guy does far too much of that himself.

Well, you may be right. The left may very well be laying in wait on two people this year. As you state, this isn’t Obamanation yet, even if it is beginning to look a lot like it.

Hillary has sure been quiet hasn’t she.

Obama is the World Whore. He has exposed himself.

That part of his speech today where he said he was NOT there as a candidate is not helping him. I wonder if he realizes how absolutely stupid it sounded. He is nothing but a pompous, arrogant, ignorant, self centered, JERK.

I believe that the more Americans look at Obama they increasingly see a young, inexperienced person who naively chants college radical slogans and who really is not ready to be President of the United States. I believe this is what's showing up in the polls and is what is making Americans uneasy about Obama.

In many cases they may like the guy, but view him as to green and untested to be President. McCain has, wisely, continued to run deeply biographical ads contrasting his background and experience to that of this frat-boy who wants to run for class president.

This year’s exit polls have overstated actual voting for Obama by 4-8%. I expect that to double in the general.

“I know I don’t look like the Americans who have come to speak here before.”

Did he really say this? If he is American, what is he supposed to look like? Friggin racist...

Shouldn’t that be a hammer ‘n sickle instead of a star on Obama’s logo on the “Keep the Change” graphic?

What we saw is a very green, inexperienced young man who hasn't had much experience with the real world. And that could kill all of us. As a state governor, I wouldn't worry too much about Obama doing much damage. But the Presidency literally involves the fate of the country. We simply cannot afford Obama as Commander In Chief.
