President Bush met with President Blaise Compaore of Burkina Faso, a small country located in western Africa. The two leaders are united against the corrupt government of Zimbabwe. (Transcript)
President Bush: We deeply care about the plight of the citizens of Zimbabwe. And we hope there's a peaceful resolution soon. I told the President, in the meantime our government is looking at, you know, sanctions beyond that which would have been levied out of the U.N. Security Council.*
* Last week Russia and China vetoed a U.S.-sponsored Security Council resolution that would have imposed an arms embargo on Zimbabwe and sanctioned President Robert Mugabe and his top advisers for rigging the country's presidential elections. (Source)
On a much lighter note, President & Mrs. Bush welcomed Little Leaguers from all over the country to the White House this afternoon for the All-Star Tee Ball Game on the South Lawn. (Transcript)
President Bush: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this historic occasion We've got 50 players from 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, who have come to show off their great baseball skills. And we're excited you're here. We welcome you, we welcome your families.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and JCOS Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen held a news conference today at the Pentagon.
Afterwards, Secretary Gates welcomed Czech Defense Minister Vlasta Parkanova and Australias Defense Minister Joel Fitzgibbon to the Pentagon.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
Oh, I meant to add, Laura rocking the vintage Wayfarer’s and the adorable shot of the boy in the red uniform and the little girl leaning on the base cancel out the mascots terror. A little. ;-)
LOL!!! Now that you mention it, that is a menacing buck-toothed grin on Dugout :)
I think this photo is funny ...
The kids are getting commemorative baseballs from the President, which is nice. But is the mascot really required for this? LOL!
There's nothing unnatural about that.
The more I look at this photo, the more I think Dugout has plans for global domination :)
G’Day! :)
Hi Jonny! GREAT job. Oh...these last two in post 24——toooooooooooooooo cute! - They remind me of my fav little red-headed neighbor boy, who dresses up like Spiderman at Halloween and shows his muscles....just that kind of cute. Kids are great.
Thanks :) It's nice to post some light-hearted photos once in a while.
This has to lighten our President’s heart. He sorely needs this right now...I can only imagine how much!
Thank you! Good to see you on the Dose again :)
Maybe I am just high-strung, but I'd be a little upset if I could have received my ball from the President of the United State or a BB Hall of Famer, but instead got it from a giant woodchuck or whatever that thing is (sometimes I express fear as anger LOL).
Yep. He really shouldn't be that close to the President.
Our AHL hockey team is the Chicago Wolves and they have the most terrifying mascot ever.
(That's from their website, I don't know that little boy, but he's a cutie)
Bush is a good man
We take this so much for granted, but it is because of President Bush that we do. The eight years before Bush we did not take goodness in a president for granted at all. Clinton was a draft dodger who loathed the military and who lied about his deferment. Bush served in the National Guard honorably and his father served his nation with the highest honor possible in the Pacific.
A huge AMEN to that!
I agree and he certainly does look like he’s having a great time!
LOL! It looks like something from Little Red Riding Hood.
But it's better than the alternative ...
I imagine this mascot would speak with a Paul Lynde voice :)
Good try, but the accent was wrong sorry! :) LOL
Thank you, jonny!
His town is up the road from me, about 5 miles!
Oh, they’re all receiving the ball directly from the President. I think ‘Dugout’ is simply handing them to the President from the stash of them off camera.
LMAO!! I do, too. I'm surprised he doesn't have a scarf tied around his neck, for some reason.
