PARIS (AFP) — French President Nicolas Sarkozy praised Islam on Wednesday at a ceremony with Saudi Prince Al Walid bin Talal to lay the first stone for a new Islamic art section of the Louvre museum.
"This will be an opportunity for the French and all visitors to the Louvre to see that Islam is progress, science, finesse, modernity, and that fanaticism in the name of Islam is a corruption of Islam," Sarkozy said at the ceremony.
The new exhibition space is due to open in 2010 after the 86-million-euro (136-million-dollar) renovation project is completed at the Louvre, which draws more than seven million visitors per year.
The Saudi prince, one of the world's richest men, is contributing 17 million euros, while oil giant Total and Lafarge will put up 8.5 million euros each, with the remainder to be covered by the government.
The new display will open in the Louvre's Cour Visconti, moving closer to the museum's rooms devoted to art and artefacts from the late Antiquity and the Mediterranean region.

I suspect this is the wing where they’ll place the crucifix inside a bowl of urine.
I suppose he had to say it, but that doesn’t make it accurate.

Gag me! Just gag me. Islam is responsible for most of the misery and unrest in the world. No one seems to have the guts to totally denounce it.
Now, if only those of us who prefer living in Western Civilization could be sure the islamic wing doesn’t take over the entire Louvre, destroying all human images, like the Mona Lisa...

Maybe the Louvre considers an islamic wing an insurance policy.
Translation- (say with thick frog accent): The stooopid Islamo-arabs gave aaahhs ahh lat of moonay and we have to zay nise tings to get more.
And now you know, boys and girls, how and why it is that Islam makes inroads both politically and culturally into the Western nations which they so despise.
It ain't the West's love of multiculturalism, or inclusion, or respect for diversity, or any of the other claptrap they spout. The leaders have simply been paid off.

Maybe I’m cynical—I know I’m cynical. I’ll just say I’m glad I got to see the Louvre before it went ka-blooey.

And what’s this “progress” crap? Oh, I guess leaping into the
10th century from the 9th.
I suppose muslims don't piss on the Louvre's works of art the way they piss on a variety of European monuments—at least, not yet.
President Bush thought he would tell all Americans that Islam is a religion of “peace”, and now he will be known forever as a common liar.
