Yup. Then they can take credit for the ban expiring in speeches to more center or conservative crowds, but they can Blame Bush in speeches to more left or ecohobbit crowds.

That would be the only way to avoid a political fight they cant afford to lose at this time.The guy on CNBC said that an extension of the offshore drilling ban is currently in both the draft House and Senate versions of the Dept of Interior spending bill. The Democrts will have to explain to their envirowhacko base why they are removing it. I think that we are going to see fireworks over this issue over the next few months. It might even lead to a presidential veto of the Dept of Interior spending bill.
