Over here, you can often see small articles in the back pages of the paper about “a dead Arab girl found in a well at village so-and-so”. It’s become so routine, it hardly makes news anymore. To deter others, this man has to be executed. Confinement is not enough— here, they consider it just a part of the procedure— do your time, and then get back to a family back home who respect you and believe you’ve done the right thing.
