As I type this, the results show McCain leading Obama 62% to 38%. I find this utterly amazing considering the poll is on an AOL site. AOL is notoriously left leaning in viewership. Also, young people are supposedly Obama's strong suit. Well, an internet poll would seem to exclude oldsters, so it seems to me this poll ought to be skewed in favor Obama on age demographics alone. Now add on top of that the fact that it is an AOL audience and the poll numbers ought to really be skewed in Obama’s favor.

But McCain is still smoking Obama. What’s happening? Is Obama the next Mondale? Or has a freeper already posted this poll and skewed the results?

Senior Citizen usage of the ‘Net is the lowest among any demographic, so this poll is surprising, or maybe McCain’s Campaign has gotten better?

This is either the 3rd or 4th straw poll to have McCain leading Obama by a wide margin. AOL.com has run these the last few weeks. Is AOL at all Conservative? I have pointed out these polls to my Lefty friends and they all say it must be a Conservative site. My Lefty friends are all convinced that Obama will win in a landslide. I suspect this speculation is being promoted as fact so that, if McCain does win in November, we ever we do win all the Leftys have is the cheating accusation.

Maybe it’s because the polls we’ve been seeing are fixed, many by oversampling Democrats and under sampling Republicans. Or, it could be that many people lie to pollsters about who they’re going to vote for, and say they’re going to vote for Obama when they are not going to. Or, it could be a combination of factors. Personally, I think both a very valid reasons. For example, there’s a recent poll showing Obama up 5% in Montana. Does anyone really believe that Obama can win Montana?

McCain leading Obama 62% to 38%

That's terrific!

McCain has got to be felling pretty good........especially since everyone knows that a poll conducted on the internet is the most accurate way by which to measure the pulse of the American people.

I didn’t even think about the racial aspect. In this election, I would say it’s a good bet to expect the highest black turnout ever in the history of this country. That could skew an internet poll in favor of McCain if blacks are under represented due to lack of computers and internet connectivity.

It shows that pollsters’ samples are skewed. I think pollsters feel they have to include everybody in their sample. I suspect minorities and liberal-leanng people are overrepresented.

My point being that on AOL nobody has to lie because they’re not talking to a pollster. They can just click on whoever they really want to vote for.

And it is not a "Freep this poll" game either.

The votes for each side were way over 100,000 votes each and you have to go through the trouble of manually entering a visual code to prevent automatic voting.

It seems that voters are reluctant to tell pollsters they will not vote for Obama and risk having the "Racist Card" thrown at them.

However, in the privacy of their own home, their vote tells the real story.

The only problem I see with a McCain landslide is that he’ll view that as a mandate for his immigration reform, expanded campaign finance reform, global warming bs agenda, etc. He won’t see it as a repudiation of Obama, which it is.

RCP averages of all national polls has Obama over McCain by 5.8 points. Which puts Obama up by 2 points since the last average was taken.

But then I forgot, cherry picking does not condone averages from legitimate polling sources.
