At the TM supermarket in Borrowdale, in Harare's western suburbs, many shelves were bare yesterday. But a kilo of mince cost Z$490 billion, a kilo of sausage Z$170 billion, and a tin of baked beans Z$30 billion.

Despite Zimbabwe's desperate shortage of food, heavy import duties have been slapped onto edible products, and a litre of imported orange juice cost an eye-watering Z$303 billion.

What a joke of a country. The joys of the African dictatorial beast. Why they do not get rid of the beast is beyond comprehension. $22 million to wipe your hind end. You have to laugh.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for Mugabe? He’s a marxist who took the land of white farmers and gave it to black farmers. Years ago, Zimbabwe could feed itself when the experienced white farmers were there. Now their land has been taken and given to those who are not nearly as productive. So now people there are starving in spite of having productive farmland. And who set all this in motion? Mugabe wanted to make a political statement about black nationalism or white devils or some such nonsense, and now his country is begging the world to fend off starvation. A revolution is long overdue in that country.

The Zimbabwean dollar is now so worthless that the zeros have become confusing...

Scientific notation. "I'm sorry, Mr. Drill, but that beer will cost you 2x1016 dollars, not 2x1015. It's OK - your Visa has a nonillion-dollar limit."

They should readjust the currency so it only expresses the exponent.

No kidding, you have to *intentionally* do that much damage, self-inflicted, as there is no way to accidentally do it...

I fear we are looking at the next Rwanda, God help those people

“Are we supposed to feel sorry for Mugabe? He’s a marxist who took the land of white farmers and gave it to black farmers.”

THat could at least be seen as repatriation, what he did was take land away from White farmers under the threat, and in many cases the act, of violence with only a quasi legality about it. He did not even then give the land to Black farmers, he gave it to political supporters... Bread Basket to Basket Case in a scant few years..

It was the liberals/socialists who pushed hardest to get rid of the white run government.

See. Socialism works! Everyone’s a billionaire. /s Sadly idiot liberals in this country believe poor people in this country will be rich if they just take it all from hard working people and give it to themselves.

Reminds me of the Monty Python skit about prices on the planet Algon:

Voice Over: This is the planet Algon, fifth world in the system of Aldebaran, the Red Giant in the constellation of Sagittarius. Here an ordinary cup of drinking chocolate costs four million pounds, an immersion heater for the hot-water tank costs over six billion pounds. and a pair of split-crotch panties would be almost unobtainable. A simple rear window de-misting device for an 1100 costs eight thousand million billion pounds and a new element for an electric kettle like this would cost as much as the entire gross national product of the United States of America from 1770 to the year 2000, and even then they wouldn’t be able to afford the small fixing ring which attaches it to the kettle.

Why they do not get rid of the beast is beyond comprehension

Because the Concerned Commies on our Campuses and other "Liberal" institutions keep supporting the SOB.

Those of us paying attention, even if that only meant reading Soldier of Fortune, knew that Mugabe was a Communist, and a racist, in the mold of Chairman Mao, or Pol Pot. We also knew that Rhodesia/Zimbabwe would come to this end, as Communist dictatorships always do. But it was the Rhodesians and the South Africans who tried to help them fend off the beast that were the subject of UN resolutions and boycotts. It was the "Concerned Commies" that insisted that all institutions from college endowment funds to corporations, divest themselves of anything to do with South African or Rhodesia.

Well I hope they are happy.

If nothing else they can blame it on George Bush.
