“McCain also singlehandedly kept the moon in its proper orbit last night.”

“And he was responsible for keeping my acid reflux in check last night, too.”

And he’s going to save the planet from Global warming. He’s going to win the war on terrorism too. Even though what needs to be done to do that is so far from the political possibilities that it is pointless to even argue about it anymore.

“Because some McCainiac felt the need to try to tie in a little hero worship for their idol. McCain isn’t Bush, people will not stand for it this time.”

And the McCainiac’s hero worshiping for their idol is what I find old and tiring as well as transparent as hell.

“John McCain could have went into the jungle and rescued those people himself”

Did he?

As far as the McCainiacs are concerned, John McCain MIGHT AS WELL had went into the jungle and rescued those people himself. They give him the credit for it anyways.

It’s disgusting. It was disgusting when they did it with Bush, it’s going to be worse under McCain.

If he wins.

"CIA was involved in locating hostages."

I assume they had some tactical help planning the raid.

I assume they had some tactical help planning the raid.

The US, France, and Israel were involved with "strategic" help (probably satellite or UAV, plus some training).

At the tactical level, it came down to the Colombians who pulled it off - they rehearsed several scenarios for several weeks. They also studied films of prior hostage releases to pick up on the personalities of the people they would be facing off against. They also had the help of a double-agent who penetrated FARC and managed to help gather the hostages together in one location.

It may only work once, but it's going to create a helluva lot of fear and distrust within FARC, which will hurt FARC for a long time to come.

The story I read said that it was all Columbia’s doing and there was no outside help but then when I looked at the pictures a caption said that Betancourt was thankful to Sarkozy but with no detail.

I guess if that’s not the case, let’s hope that Mark Bowden doesn’t get the inspiration for another tell-all book centering around Columbia, lol.

Freepers helped shake the bushes on this. I know it helped from an inside track, from the Grumman Corp.

And Duncan Hunter yanked some serious chain.
