A 17-year-old South Carolina boy on an church outing was killed Saturday when he was struck by the popular "Batman the Ride" at Six Flags Over Georgia. It was the second Batman ride-related death at the Cobb County park.

That’s why you put it on the “inside fence”. This was a two fence system you know.

And we KNOW how effective that first fence was don't we in this determined young mans case....

Alas, you miss the point. With the two fence system, the second fence having the concertina wire, anyone attempting to climb the second fence will be known to have commited trespass. Still he’ll be alive!

And you miss my point that we will then be subjected to reading stories about another Precious Snowflake cut up on the nasty concertina wire.

The world is not perfectible, and it is nearly impossible to protect idiots from themselves.

There’s nothing funny about the death of another human being.

Oh, I don't know. If Osama bin Ladin were to get atomized by a bunker buster, I might giggle a little.

Better that little Snowflake be cut by supersharp titanium razors than that his head be tossed like a golfball across the park spewing his AIDS tainted blood on all and sundry.

I hate it when some jerk spews bodily fluids on my stuff.

...than perhaps a young man who wanders into a restricted zone.

Wanders? This illustrates how you and I differ. You have taken a young man climbing two fences posted with signs warning of imminent danger, and sanitized it.

"Wanders" makes it sound like this guy was walking around eating cotton candy and enjoying the park when BAM! a roller coaster takes his head off. That is not what happened. He climbed a fence put there to keep him out. While doing so he ignored the signs, put there to warn him of the dangers ahead. He then climbed another fence, put there for his protection. He again ignored the posted warning signage. He then walked close enough to an operating roller coaster to have his head violently torn from his body.

That is completely different than 'wandering' into the path of "Batman the Ride."

I first learned of this story while at dinner on Saturday night. I saw the headline "TEEN DECAPITATED AT SIX FLAGS" on CNN from a muted TV. My first reaction was, "That is terrible, I feel sorry for him and his family." Later that evening I read about the incident here on Free Republic. All sympathy for this individual disappeared when I read how this event unfolded and how this 17 year old was solely responsible for his own death.

Truth be told, I now feel sympathy for the people who stood in line for 2 hours, in the Georgia heat to ride this roller coaster - only to have this guy's stupidity shut the ride down as they were next to climb aboard. But that's just me.

Forgive me for not getting all broken up when a young man chooses to do something stupid that costs him his life. I will save my sympathy for the innocent, the unfortunate and the deserving.

Excellent reply.

I guess if I were getting my a$$ handed to me in a public forum I would feel the same way.

Your estimation of your abilities is waaaayyy overrated.

"I can do it at the same time."

As can I....with a negligible level of compassion for the consequence of illegal and reckless activity in this incident as opposed to those whose life is lost in unselfish service to country.

Also at the same time -- see I can multi task -- am amazed at the excessive attention and concern expressed by the Media and some folks in this forum.

I can't help but suspect motive -- in how the Media can dwell on a death such as this -- and nearly ignore the horrific deaths of innocents murdered on a daily basis by thugs -- usually black like this kid, against both black and white victims.

Whoa. . . .pal, all I did was express my support for one side of the debate. Why drag me into your rant.

I made my choice clear and moved on. Being ‘pinged’ to read some sort of rant does not add to your argument.

Have a nice day.

Great reply, that is right up there with "I know you are, what am I".

Post again when you can come up with something else clever to say.

I cn’t disagree with any of that and I know you from many years here to be one of the best and candid freepers there are.

And I respect you and from where your opinions are derived from.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with all my rants.

"I don’t expect everyone to agree with all my rants."

If you interpreted my posts as opposed to your right to respond to a situation in ANY manner that your personality, background and moral bearing dictate - I failed to speak clearly...

My INTENT was to point out that we all may receive the same "input", process it through our own internal CPU (the way we're wired) and come to a different result.... It doesn't make one result right and all others wrong....

That was the point I tried to make - and wasn't clear enough..

I'm simply amazed at the the events which exercise some folks compassion or outrage -- and outraged at the events which don't have the same effect...

In my opinion -- folks frequently focus their compassion on the wrong events and fail to show compassion to those who really deserve or have earned that compassion.

We're on the same side of too many essential issues - for me to be critical of your position on an issue such as this which has more to do with personality, life experiences, personal bias and religious training....

Me - I'm a hard ass..
No patience or compassion for criminals, Congress Critters, Leftists or the "enemy" by any definition of the term....

It takes all kinds, partner - to make the world go round!

I am sorry that I seemed judgemental. I had just lost my Father in Law within an hour of your post, and I was a little verclempt at his passing. Although you are rightfully so not impressed by my “saddening”, I hope that you can fight through the bitterness that you display. I for one, buried my Father in Law today, received his flag, and have a different perspective at the moment. However, I certainly meant no disrespect on your feelings. We all have to sort out the cards that we are dealt.

No harm no fowl. I just get so frustrated at the quickness people give forgiveness to idiocy. It is and has been getting worse for years. Excusing stupidity on the grounds of youth, or race, or income has become almost a religion for some. Most of the time a idiot shows themselves by getting an order wrong or being unable to follow simple instructions. In this case this young mans stupidity came at the cost of his life. As society demands less and gives more to the ignorant it's only going to get worse.
My condolences on your loss.

LADYAK,
I am praying for your family and that they will find your son. Praying for the family that lost their son in this accident.
