Creationist Bill Signed by Jindal
LGF ^ | June 27, 2008

Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal has signed a stealth creationist bill into law, and American educational standards take a huge step backward: Science law could set tone for Jindal.

The creationist front group called the Discovery Institute is quietly crowing, and maintaining the fiction that the bill is not religiously-based.

Nice strawman setup.

Ever seen an agurment you didn't like that wasn't a strawman?

A strawman does not rise to the level of an argument.

Strawmen, elephant hurling, etc, are just disruptive tactics designed to stifle debate.

The Bible is not a Math text and you are an analist. Some truths are absolute.

The Bible is not a math text, but if everything in the Bible is inerrant then our understanding of pi must be incorrect. Pi must be 3 because the Bible stated so. This produces a problem because we know pi is 3.141592..., just as the Bible stating a young earth is a problem since we know the Earth is older than that, just as the Flood is a problem since we know it didn't happen (it was at the height of the Old Kingdom of Egypt, and they didn't seem to notice it).

There is no problem with any of this if you aren't an inerrantist.

By the way, if you consider that an ‘unprovoked personal attack’, you haven’t been here long.

Sorry, I forgot how nasty some Christians can be in response to perceived threats to their dogma. Settin' a good example there, bud.

Did you ever see an arguement you didn’t like that wasn’t a strawman? Of all the possible logical fallacies someone could possible engage in, that appears to be the only one anyone who’s ever disagreed with you has ever committed, and every last one of them is guilty of it.

Sure, the 2nd Law states that there is a 'universal tendency to the dissipation of mechanical energy'.

That's one way to state it. There are many more.

but you are correct, in some cases an 'increase in entropy' can also mean an increase in order

But it didn't cause an increase in in order, as by definition order decreased. We only appreciate a lattice as order, beauty in the eye of the beholder and such.

For it not working at the molecular level, I don't know why. A lot of our regular physical laws don't apply at various microscopic sizes. Quantum physics tries to explain things down there, and Quantum physics makes your brain hurt.

I think you meant 'Entropy does decrease' - not increase. I.e., the material exposed to the sunlight has become more 'complex'

No, it increases. The planets may experience decreases in entropy, but at the cost of vastly increased entropy in the Sun. The overall effect must be an increase in entropy in the system.

Sure, sunlight evaporates water. It condenses into clouds, and then recirculates as rain... I don't see the decrease in entropy in this system

Think of the hydrological cycle as a machine for moving water around. The 2nd Law states no machine can be 100% efficient, there must be some loss of heat, an increase in entropy. But the Sun provides so much heat that doesn't really matter.

I don't understand this point...

The 2nd Law is a bunch of equations used by engineers and physicists to get their jobs done. Those are the correct definitions of the 2nd Law for their application. What we say in English is just a loose translation of what the equations accomplish. I know such translations aren't really correct because I've been with mathematicians talking together and it all goes right over my head. When I ask, I can see the gears shifting as they try to slow down and translate it to dummy so I can understand (and I'm pretty good at math), but I can't completely understand because I don't know the math at that level.

If you value your sanity and don't like Tylenol, stay away from math PhDs and quantum physicists.

Whats so funny is that it appears that he is actually admitting the Evo___ists habitually use Strawmen.

And it continues. Never an explaination of why it is a strawman, as opposed to some other logical fallacy, or why it is a strawman at all. Just “Strawman!”.

No, actually the funniest part to me, is the apoplexy that sets in, when you even mention GOD! That they have no real arguments, is simply amusing.

Their liturgy is as cold as their hearts are toward God. Their almighty is a dead guy, who tried to explain God's wondrous world of creatures. Their course is to deny the existence of the Creator. Why else do they protest too much..

Out, out, damned Spot!

My dog, Spot!

Tacti son, there is something you need to understand.

A strawman is not a logical fallacy.

Its simply a disruptive slight of hand that people use when they don’t have a real argument.

When your out in the woods with friends and someone sees a bear they just say ‘Bear!’.

Nobody goes into details of why its a bear.

I suggest you try to avoid getting your knickers in a knot every time someone calls you on your slight of hand.

But you won't actually take that argument to a Religion forum thread, and apply it there under the same criteria you use here, and declare everyone who doesn't believe in your particular interpretation of the Bible to be an atheist.

A strawman is not a logical fallacy.

Who's defintion of "logical fallacy" are we using, and where can I find a reference that backs up that assertion?

Too true.

Evo & Co are truly a comedy of errors.

I really like that pic, the expression is perfect.

Well, I gotta get some stuff done before the temps get to high.

Don’t have to much fun. ;)

I suggest you make your own arguments, instead of everyone elses.

You're not interested in giving everyone all the possible theories on what a strawman arguent is?

You're right. I tag some people as atheist. I also call some cultists! I guess EVO's could fit that category, too.

But, really you are still grasping at straws...
