'If it were up to me, I would kill him'

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- The woman accused of beating up and threatening a sex offender who had moved into her neighborhood says she was only trying to protect her daughter.

Tammy Lee Gibson told investigators she beat up William A. Baldwin with a baseball bat outside his home earlier this week. Gibson said she wouldn't hesitate to do it again, even as she faces assault and felony harassment charges.

While awaiting trial in jail, Gibson told KOMO News on Thursday she has no regrets.

"If it were up to me, I would kill him. I would kill him," she said.

According to police documents, Level-3 sex offender William A. Baldwin had moved into his uncle's Puyallup home earlier this month. Following his move, Pierce County deputies distributed flyers around the neighborhood to alert residents of his presence.

On Monday Gibson, an area resident, went to Baldwin's house in the 1800 block of River Road and asked for him.

When Baldwin stepped outside, she claimed she was going to kill him because Baldwin had molested her children. Gibson then proceeded to hit Baldwin repeatedly with her bat, the document said, leaving him with an injured arm.

She admitted the guy didn’t molest her children after cops arrested her. It also looks like she tried to kill the guy for the hell of it. She’ll get prison and deserve it.

I don’t see using the fact that the guy had been previously convicted of a crime as a pretext for beating him up. We going to do that with every ex-criminal?

Some criminals learn a lesson, redeem themselves and go on to be happy and productive, even decent, people.

Experiences seem to show that child molesters do not "Get Better".

Perhaps they could be given some kind of island of their own, some other kind of isolation. Judges and Social Workers who insist on releasing them should be required to board them with thier families for six months. Maybe that would help.

As it is now, when one finally kills, it is generally not a first offense. Whatever we are doing is not working.

I had a sex offender living directly across the street from me, used to be a close friend, before we found out he was molesting his daughter from the age of 4 to 14, daily. He had manipulated his daughter, promising he would be in therapy. We were crazy, my husband went to the police station for what to do. Everyday we would see him and it would make you sick to your stomach. He went back on his promise to his daughter, allowed a woman with a young girl move in with him. The daughter called him on it and he told her to mind her own effing business. She hung up the phone and directly called the police and pressed charges, he is now doing 30 yrs.

The thoughts of what he had done consumed me every time I saw him drive into his driveway. It was such a relief once he was arrested.

Yeah. We need to get rid of the legal system and just institute stoning by the local religious leaders like they had in Afghanistan.

Rule of law is so inconvenient.

You did the right thing. Taking a baseball bat to someone just on the theory that he will eventually molest your child is definitely wrong and she’ll get time for it.

Hopefully just the child molesters.

There is literally nothing that could be done to them that they would not richly deserve.

Who are these women that do stuff like this?

Does anyone know where the levels of sex offenders are described?

Level 3 indicates there is a high probability that he will re-offend.

I thought the police distributed fliers telling people where he was, and that was how she found out?

Having law enforcement officials pass flyers around the neighborhood warning people of this man's presence -- something that isn't done for any other kind of criminal, including CONVICTED MURDERERS -- might understandably lead someone to think this man deserved some particular "attention."

Well, if the courts won’t keep them in jail for our protection, maybe they’ll do it to protect the molesters.

Know of a situation where that happened. A girl that my daughter graduated with. When the mother found out her precious daughter was sleeping with her boyfriend she got a restraining order. The daughter would sneak out and meet the boyfriend. She of course got pregnant. The mother had him arrested and charged with statutory rape. He was convicted. He’s now a registered sex offender. The darling little daughter who couldn’t/wouldn’t keep her knees together was sainted because she kept her baby and graduated from high school. No punishment ever for her for violating the restraining order.

Ruined his life at the age of 18.

Most people assume that “registered sex offender” means they rape 5 year olds.

No.

Only the ones who rape children.

I said her heart was in the right place. As in, not wanting men who rape children to live in her neighborhood.

I don’t recall saying she wasn’t going to prison.

She will never see another day in jail when or if this goes to trial. Even the public defender could win this one.

Please refer me to the post in which I stated that we need to get rid of the leagl system. Because I did not.

What we need to do is FIX a legal system that would EVER let a man who raped two 5 year old girls go free from prison under ANY circumstances.

Until then, we need to do whatever we have to do to assure we and our families are protected.

No we don’t.

But in THIS case, it clearly DID mean that.
