Holy smokes, what a post! Thanks for linking to it. I learn so much here at FR.
I believe this to be true, except I wouldn't use the word "hoard." They are simply in posession of trillions of dollars that are declining in value every day. Therefore, I believe they are transferring that imaginary American currency into something substantial and real -- that becomes more, not less, valuable every day. I think they have a Strategic Petroleum Reserve that makes ours look like it's the size of a five gallon gas can, and that they're filling it with every drop they can buy at any price.
“Glad you figured that out. Hopefully others will.
BTW, the exclamation points are really unnecessary if, when making a written argument, the content is reasoned and factual. “
Just to keep things clear, those were Danae’s comments you quoted - my post was simply a reply to them. :-).
Here’s my plan - drill everywhere, but at the same time implement ‘green’ plans - in other words, everything at the same time versus no drilling and talking about green with not much happening.
I’d even be willing to pay a small additional tax on a gallon of gas as long as it is set aside for nuke power and other initiatives specifically to reduce dependence on oil.
Also, I’m thinking that even if new drilling will not produce much for a few years, our intention to drill would be heard around the world and impact the price of oil and gas immediately.
This whole thing seems like a no-brainer to me.
Yes I know. I just think we ought to eat some of those caribou, on principle.
But won't burning all that fossil fuel cause more CO2? I thought McCain believed in Global Warming, and we needed a Cap and Trade (read: massive tax increase) to address it.
Which is John in favor of: More or less CO2?
Or is Comrade Juan McNuts just intellectually incoherent?
Unfortunately, Clinton was drilling women instead of drilling for oil. Women should have been put off limits, not millions of acres of natural resources.
Geez, give them an inch and they want a mile! ;-)
I hope them Dems try their hardest to block drilling and refineries. It would be hilarious to watch the country try to lynch (am I allowed to use that word?) them.
I accept this exception. “Hoarding” may have been the wrong word. It would be most enlightening to know if they also have a SPR and how many millions or maybe billions of barrels they have stored away which they bought at an average of $90 a barrel while we Americans will be paying at the rate of $150 to $200 a barrel over the next year or two.
Thanks.
I hope he stays to the right on this because Obama is going to stay far left.

Lol, I keep telling people that!
Here in Southern California we have many capped oil wells. There are some at Doheny Beach, within walking distance of my home. There are wells on- shore and near off-shore (example Huntington Beach) and all over Southern California. A friend has wells in Texas, all capped.
Talks over the years w/Feinstein’s and Boxer’s offices produced these answers: “Not profitable enough”, “Not enough refineries” and “Have to sell on world market so not worth it”.
The uncapped, pumping wells could certainly help out until new wells come on-line.
Something smells to high heaven.
Ditto. Hey, if they strike oil off California, bingo! California could kiss off their billions of dollars of debt.
Thanks for the link and the great post. Five years later, it’s still worth a bookmark.
I hear ya.
But I think that we need to take this issue to the ‘RATS.
This is a THIRTY YEAR OLD issue, since the first oil
‘crisis’ in the late 70’s under jimmah cahtah ...
The GOP is the party with SOLUTIONS.
The ‘RATS are the party OPPOSED to those solutions !!
I call for immediate drilling of Congress so brains can be inserted into their empty heads.
