McCain: It can be “tough” to be proud of USA

WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate John McCain admitted on Saturday it can be difficult at times to be proud of the United States.

“I’ll admit to you … that it’s tough in some respects,” McCain said when asked by a questioner at a town hall meeting how to be proud of the country.

“We have not always done things right and we mismanaged the war in Iraq very badly for nearly four years.”

McCain’s wife, Cindy, pounced on Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, for saying in February that she was proud of her country “for the first time in my adult life.”

The Arizona senator said it was important for the United States to be more humble and inclusive.

and furthermore, there are times I am not proud of this country either. I am not proud that I live in a country that says it values freedom, and then selects Barack Hussein Obama as a Presidential Nominee. It’s not bad to criticize your country from time to time and there is alot to criticize. I am furious at this country and Bush for what it’s done to our Serbian allies. My husband just got back and they hate us for what we’ve done to them. Backing our arch enemies and betraying our friends? Are you proud of that? I’m not.

“Oh, grow up.”

Yeah Hildy, keep pushing that new RINO campaing slogan: it’s a real winner!

“Drink RINO arsenic koolaid—it’ll kill ya slower than ‘Rat cyanide cola!”

Real winner there, Hildy.

I think I’ll pass.

I don’t know what he’s talking about.

But I’ll bet Michelle Obama does.

exit82—proud of the USA since 1954.

So McCain, in part, justifies what Michelle Obama said.

Every time I consider possibly voting for this loser just to stop Obama, he pokes me with a pointy stick, just softening me up for the next shiv he sticks in the back of conservatives.

Listening to this “republican” makes me feel like I am a prisoner in a POW camp being tortured.

Not like I was going to vote for him anyway. Think I’ll just sit this one out.

Obama may very well be the worst potential president ever, but yet John McCain goes out of his way to make it difficult to vote for McCain.

Sometimes idiots like McCain and Rudy show their true colors, just like Obama did at the infamous ‘clinging’ SF fundraiser. Of course, there will always be freepers there to excuse their liberalism away.

Oh please! Just when do you intend to say enough is enough? Lets elect Trotsky instead? Good plan.

" So much of it will be out of context. PLEASE, PLEASE let’s not fall into this trap and let the press manipulate us as well. I think we’re smarter than that."

Ok, I'll bite - What part of this stupidity was "taken out of context"? The man's a liberal and an idiot! He'll be a disaster as president.

Fine...you think he’ll be worse than Obama...if so...don’t even bother to respond to me. Everyone here are just falling into the media’s trap.

Competing with Obama and his wife to find out which of them is more anti-American?

Now, now. He’s just trying to distance himself from Bush. Rest assured, there are plenty of the “correct” kind of bon mots to come as he will undoubtedly try to appeal to the conservative constituency.

So what are you going to do? Sit back and bitch and moan and write clever things for the next eight years? Again, I choose to live in the real world. And in the world I’m living in right now, there’s only one choice for President. I don’t understand how you don’t see that. Am I happy? NO. I wish it were someone else than McCain. But it IS McCain. Our chance was the primaries and we didn’t get the job done. And I’ll vote for him against Barry in a heartbeat. I’m flabbergasted you don’t feel the same way.

“I’ll admit to you … that it’s tough in some respects,(to be pround of the USA)”

“We have not always done things right and we mismanaged the war in Iraq very badly for nearly four years

“I think we can be proud of America because of what we’ve achieved and accomplished in this world,” he said.

I think what he was trying to say was that it's hard to be pround of things like slavery. He didn't mean he wasn't proud of America in general.

Thank you for some sanity on this board. He started talking about drilling for oil today..he’s going to get more and more towards the right in coming months...But, as I first contended, the press is going to do all they can to get Conservatives into a lather...as we can see, it ain’t too hard.
