McCain: It can be “tough” to be proud of USA

WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate John McCain admitted on Saturday it can be difficult at times to be proud of the United States.

“I’ll admit to you … that it’s tough in some respects,” McCain said when asked by a questioner at a town hall meeting how to be proud of the country.

“We have not always done things right and we mismanaged the war in Iraq very badly for nearly four years.”

McCain’s wife, Cindy, pounced on Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, for saying in February that she was proud of her country “for the first time in my adult life.”

The Arizona senator said it was important for the United States to be more humble and inclusive.

If you truly believe that Barack Hussein Obama is the same as John McCain, I have nothing to say to you because you’re irrational, just as irrational as every BDS liberal.

Inspector Clusoe I presume.

Or it just might be too late...

No way in HELL I'll ever vote for a DUmocrat, even if they do have an "R" next to their name....If the GOP wants my vote, they'll have to EARN it.

Before any of the weak-kneed reactionaries tell me that "not voting for McCain is a vote for Osama Obama", there are plenty of democrats in this state who will be voting for McLame to offset my write-in vote....

McCain is a putz. Context won’t matter, he has officialy made Michelle Obama in line with his own thinking. This will be used in the coming months. But....no one ever claimed McCain is smart.

GOP is wanting to lose.

I’ll take a bitter ex-congressman that believes in the founding principles of this country over a big government Republican or a big government Democrat anyday.

McCain’s decisions and comments are an appeal to moderates. But, that is where his support has always been.

So, you're implying independents and moderates aren't patriotic? Reagan appealed to both with patriotism and the promise of a return to greatness as well as conservative populism.

It may take a President Obama for the US to understand what Democrats are.

You get an Obama with a Dem Congress and senate and you won't see another Republican in your lifetime. But since you're willing to make the gamble to completely give away our Country, there's nothing more I can say to you except you'll have absolutely no right to complain..but you will...ad nauseum, because that's the only thing everyone here can do. Where were you during the primaries? Did you work for any Conservative?

If you believe we are still a Conservative nation, you are wrong. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, why don't we work towards letting McCain know what we want? It'll be hard, it won't work a good percentage of the time, but it's the only thing we can do and still try to save this Country. But I know whining, bitching and moaning is much more fun than that. And a hell of a lot less work.

I'd much rather fight every day against an enemy like Osama Obama instead of getting raped every day by my own PARTY!

We survived 8 years of BJ Clinton after all.

What a disaster! Did you all see the details of his Clinton supporter meeting? He tells that he supports Ginsberg and Breyer for the Supreme Court!

Out of context? This is what he believes. For decades he has hampered and hammered conservatives.

The primaries were over before I got to vote. I did donate money, but there wasn’t anyone left to campaign for in my state.

I think the odds are good a President Obama will return the Congress to Republican control in 2010. It is certain a President McCain will not...which will be fine by him, since he defines reaching across the aisle as working with a Republican.

I plan to go on living my life as best I can, since there are two democrats and no republicans left in the race for President. It looks to me like we can expect life to really, really suck for 2 years, or suck pretty bad for 20. I prefer the former.

Did we? Really now. Three thousand souls might have a few questions for you about that. And try explaining to the children that it's not ok to lie or treat your wife like she is household furniture. Try explaining to them that it's ok now to exploit minorities for political advanctage and them dump them when it's convenient, keeping the country split in order to destroy it.

Your idea of "surviving" is pretty strange.

I don't see that as being a bad thing. What has the GOP done for conservatism since Reagan? Nothing! The GOP has been moving to the left for many years - their fundamental principles are akin to what the Democratic party's were in the mid 1960's. The bulk of GOP congressmen believe in a strong centralized government, they do not believe in limited government. I strongly believe the party is beyond repair. It's time to cut our loses and start anew.

Careful, how far you push the family line. Right now, Obama is more conservative with the family than McCain - the guy that womanized while married, tossing his first wife overboard. Then there is the whole Keating scandal. Besides, McCain voted for and today, now, says that Ginsberg and Breyer are a good idea.

Can’t be any stranger than your idea of a “conservative”. It was “republicans” like Juan McCain who also have blood of 9-11 victims on his hands.

Open borders, giving terrorists access to trial lawyers and constitutional rights to foreigners should be enough to make any real conservative cringe.

More than 3,000 American citizens per year are killed by illegals...care to try again?

McCain is not a playboy. He came back after a devastating experience to another devastation. His first wife still adores him, that tells me all I need to know.

There is no comparison here.

As for the judges, he also voted in the conservative ones. Most of the judges are voted in at about a 99%. As for your claim that he still believes it was a good idea to vote in Ginsberg and Breyer, I seriously question the validity of that since he just stated yesterday that they made the worst ruling in American history. Thems pretty strong words for such a liberal judge lover.

Curious, on this thread you have complained about the Libertarians, the GOP and McCain.

Do you ever attack the Left on anything or is sniping your own side in the back all you do?
